Factorising Indices.

Can somebody please explain how to factorise an indice. The example in the book doesnt really explain it well and im a bit thrown off by it.
For example:
9x^2y^3 + (27x^2)/y^2

For the first term 9xsqrd and ycubed look at the product rule. You set up one as u(x) and the other as v(x) then you do f'(x)=u(x)*v'(x)+v(x)*u'(x). These things can be found on the formula sheet. Also, look at the quoitent rule for the second term. They should be in your book as well as on the formula sheet given in both exam 1 and exam 2.
