How Do You Get Motivated?

Hey everyone! With exams literally starting tomorrow, I was wondering how people get motivated to study. I have burned through so much time just procrastinating or feeling anxious and I'd be interested to know how you are inspired to keep going :)

I find I'm most motivated after I get a bad score back etc. but obviously that is inefficient and also we're done with assessments.

Anyone have any sustainable motivation advice? Feel free to post any inspirational GIFs or images etc... haha

Thanks  :D

"Sometimes instead of the direct route, you have to take the more scenic one" - this just reminds me that this ATAR is not the end of anything, and ultimately I will get to where I want to go, even though it might take a little longer. Just a good reminder and helps me de-stress a little bit in the lead up to exams and all.

I have a friend who put up pictures of places in Europe that she'd really like to visit [Paris, London, Rome, etc] with a little note saying "I can only get here if I get an ATAR of _____" in bold typeface. She says it helps her to be motivated to study. I can sort of see where that goes - cause you have a goal more interesting than I want to get into X course.

Good luck :)

Anytime I want to do something to procrastinate, I put it on my list for after exams and tell myself it's only X more days.

10 days until I'm done - keen.

If you have tried really hard throughout the year, tell yourself "why stop now? It's almost over, if i just push myself a little more i will know that it will all be worth it"

If you haven't tried that hard throughout the year, tell yourself "what's in the past is in the past, i have to focus on my present to get where i want to go in the future, so starting now, i will study all i can and work as hard as i can in this limited time i have to ensure that i come out with a better result".

Sparked, funny that you mention that.

As I was saying earlier in the Class of 2014 thread, I'm using the old "Let's work towards so-and-so event" line.
In this case, I said I have two sticky notes saying: "Think of the end... it's coming!" and "...or the bonfire made from practice exams during the holidays!" (This is a follow-up on someone saying that they needed fuel for their post-exam bonfire.)

I know people who are saying: "Schoolies will be more rewarding when I finish my exams.", "The school formal will be worth it." (Some school haven't had theirs yet.) and other similar lines.

Of course there's also:
  • "I'm working for the future." or "I need x ATAR for y course. So I'll need...*starts rattling off subjects, study scores and more statistics*."
  • "I don't want to disappoint parents/family/relatives/friends." or the opposite "I want to please my parents/ family/ relatives/ friends."
  • "I want to make the most of this year/ finish the year with a bang/ kick VCAA's butt."
  • "It's just a little farther to go. One month/ *however long left* to go." (This one's usually paired with a calendar, crossing off each day, or a time-tracking device with the final countdown plastered on the screen.)

There's a few more creative ones out there, but I'm not going to delve any further. I think you get what I mean.

If they don't seem to be applicable to you, try searching up your good Internet friends - Google and YouTube. Something there will eventually motivate you. If that still doesn't work, you can do it the old-fashioned way: get a friend/trustworthy person, ask them to wave some of your favourite food in front of your face and tell them to yell at you to do your work in order to get it, no matter how badly you beg.
