So... I'm currently using a mars micro (staedtler) which uses HB 0.5mm leads..

Does this mean I have to swap to a 2B?

Thanks

You should be fine. If you look at the exam covers and previous exams, the instructions just say "Answer all questions in the spaces provided" - I'm pretty sure for all the maths subjects that the exam marker will get your physical booklet (they aren't scanned). If you can see your working out clearly on the day of the exam, the examiners should be able to see it.

Science subject exams get scanned, and that's why they have the border around the edge which says "No writing in this area" and the instructions ask you to use pen (although I'm gonna use pencil anyway for physics :P).

Are both acceptable?

"a dilation by a factor of k from the x axis"

And

"a dilation by a factor of k away from the axis"

If I write an answer as

1-e^-2

is that okay, or would I lose marks for not simplifying it into:
1-(1/e^2)

That should be fine - it's a lot neater IMO.

Do we have to leave our answers in one value? By this i mean, a/b + c/d, --> (ad+cb)/bd
Or is the former acceptable?

Both are acceptable unless the question tells you to do otherwise.

Both are acceptable unless the question tells you to do otherwise.

If you have, for example: ex(x-1) = 0
How would you discount the ex solution?

Do you go ex ≠ 0
Or ex > 0
Or ex = 0 -> N/A since ex > 0

Are you able to solve logs in a way such that you do not have to exclude some values in the end?

For example, 2 log_e(x) = log_e(9)

log_e(x) = 0.5*log_e(9) = log_e(root9) = log_e(3)

x=3

instead of introducing x^2, then rejecting x = -3?

For the (usually) first differentiation q, for two marks do you have to do more than just write the derivative? like write the rule for the chain rule etc ?

You need to show some form of working out (whether that be through writing the rule or showing the multiplication of numbers is entirely up to you) but show some form of working and you've got yourself 2 marks :)
Stating the answer will only yield 1 mark unfortunately..
