The average value between 0 and a is a (since the line is horizontal at y=a) and the average value between -a and 0 is 0 (y value ranges from -a to a which has an average of 0).
Add these together and divide by 2 and you get a/2. There may be another method but I think it’s correct since average value is referring to the y axis.
