Which didn't help with an easy written as well. Could it be more lenient assessor s last year? I know people in my cohort (me inclusive) were only getting around 80 max in the mock orals, but it would be interesting to see the grade distributions and assessors reports when they come out (y)

Yeah, certainly benefited those who had comparatively weaker orals. For example, a friend of mine got 95+ oral in the final exam, but got around 70-80 in mock orals, whereas I only got slightly higher despite 90+ mock oral.

Not making excuses for my dismal score (deserve it b/c I didn't work hard enough)

I wouldn't say 38 is dismal haha, and it scales to like 48/49 doesn't it? On the scaling report it said the chinese sl scaling is higher this year;it said a 40 goes to a 50 for last year (iirc usually a 43 or something was needed-going of atarcalc) :)

Although I don't do Chinese, I always find it strange the difference in scores with mock orals and the final exam because I've heard of a few instances where a couple of my friends have scored 90+ for mock oral yet didn't 'smash' Chinese in comparison to a few of my friends who scored 70-90 but managed to score way higher beating those that scored 90+ on mock orals (this was in 2013 at Chinese Schools).

40 went to 50.00 yet 45 remained at 52.00, meaning you were disadvantaged with a higher score, since everyone is closer behind. You win some, you lose some.

pls pls pls bro a 69/75 was a 39 yet a 72/75 was a 50 (with some deviation from SACs)

They couldn't have that much of a difference in scaling or it'd be duly unfair

Yeah scaling was pretty good this year admittedly, but that's because there was little to no difference between S.S (exam was easy)

Not me, a friend got 96 oral and 69 written but ended up with 39 raw because he got dogged out by the teachers in SACs

(a.k.a many thanks to him that I got an A+ SAC grade :3)

When you say your friend got "dogged out" by the teachers in SACs, do you mean that he scored higher than what the teacher gave him or did he just not do well on the SACs.

He scored way higher than what the teacher gave him and was pulled down by incompetent students who were placed above him (me).

Happens in XJS every year and they don't even bother hiding it.

ahh fair enough, i heard that happens quite a bit. I haven't gotten my statement of marks yet, but from what my teacher told me she entered 48/50 for me for GA2. However on the results, it said I only got an A for GA2, which was weird. Either my teacher forgot or it just scaled down badly.

do your best on the SACs in hopes to get a good ranking and try to maintain a good relationship with your teacher. Even though homework doesn't go towards marks directly, handing in essays weekly is a good indication that you're a hardworker and your teacher would be more likely to put you in a better position to get A+ for SACs.

Really worried I won't do well in SACs :( I've seen some people doing really well in class without much work and it makes me feel bad :/

She may have destroyed your SACs if she feels you haven't been putting efforts in during class OR it could've just scaled down :3, but I don't think that's the case, seeing as you still got 39, for it to scale down that much, you'd be looking at a ~35

Get on really good terms with your teacher. This is 3/4 Chinese, forget about what your peers think about you (teacher's pet or w/e), it's not worth a bad ranking. And, of course, make sure you do what your teacher asks you to do and do it to the best of your capabilities.
