This year has been a massive year of ups and downs for me. I feel like in some ways, whilst horrible things still remain just as horrible, they provide a contrast to enhance the good things, they help you really appreciate the things you do have. I've had a close family member pass away and other things that have thrown my life into chaos but i've had some real amazing experiences too.
This year i guess i have two or three best rival moments. Definitely one was hearing my mum was free of cancer (for the second time), that was such an incredible weight off for absolutely everyone involved. Obviously, something like that, even once, is a totally life and image altering experience. It's still tough now but i do my absolute best to help her.
Another was going to Japan. I've never been overseas (neither have my parents), so, i felt incredibly lucky and excited to go with my friend. It was also incredibly stressful (almost all the planning fell on me and i spoke 0 Japanese), so it was such a contrasting experience.
I did so many amazing things, things i've been interested in for ages. I really love tea and i got to participate in a tea ceremony in Kyoto and learn how to do it all (from a girl who spoke fluent English), i bought a lot of the things back with me and continue to use them in my daily life. I'm intensely interested in religion as well so walking through all the shrines and appreciating the sacredness and majesty of what i only previously learned about in books was amazing. I got to stay with Shingon Buddhist monks (kind of a mystical, non-mainstream kind of Buddhism) on Mount Koya for a night and participate in their morning service which was just breathtaking. People are so ready to help you as well, even if neither of you speak the respective language, the kindness of the Japanese people is always something i'll carry in my heart.

For those commenting on the ATARNotes community, as someone who has been here for awhile, i hope you all stay to help out future students next year :3. If you want to get involved in another part of the community, we also have live
ATARNotes chat (sort of like a really big FB/skype chat, text only). It may take a little to respond but it's great for talking about things relating to education/this community but most of the time it's just general chat.
