Opinion on hand written vs typed notes?

What are your opinions on hand writing notes vs typing notes? which method do you use and why?

I have done both in the past but mainly stick to writing notes. Some say that writing out your notes is more effective in remembering them?
I've recently been studying for my 3/4 subjects and have been finding that writing out notes is extremely time consuming and is probably a disadvantage compared to typing them out? what do u guys think?

I find it's personal preference whatever way.

For subjects that require writing equations (e.g. maths subjects, accounting - just as examples), it would probably be better to hand write rather than type.

My personal preference is typing notes - I find I actually remember better by typing.

This is a question you really should be asking yourself, because everyone is going to have a differing opinion and in the end you have to be comfortable with how you organise your notes.

Experiment with both and see what suits you.
I found that writing notes gave me the flexibility to draw/write anything however i liked. It was difficult sketching some diagrams at first but at the end of the day, it also saved me lots of time and I could do it wherever I wanted :)

I find that for Subjects like methods and chemistry (which has more maths) I like to hand write them. But for more content heavy Subjects like legal and psych I prefer typing them because I can always amend them and don't have to spend hours writing. But then again for chemistry I'm thinking of hand writing the maths part and typing the theory parts.

i type chem ones and use the equation writer tool in word. Just a few more clicks to get to it, but its not like you have equations everywhere. Accumulated, it might take +5-10 minutes more every session you write them, but it looks nicer and you can copy paste :)

I hand-write notes that require analytical or creative deep thinking or brainstorming. I also hand-write notes if the purpose of the writing is to help memorise them.

I type notes, however, when I am putting together my collated topic summary notes, because they become my personal textbook/reference book. It also makes them easier to edit, send to friends and teachers for feedback, go over with tutors, copy/paste from other documents and the Internet, etc.

So, I think it depends on what the notes are and for what purpose you're putting them together.

For maths and science based subjects, i find that you dont really need notes. If anything, you should just buy some commercial notes and use them as a base and add stuff that you find difficult throughout the year to. I find that notes are a really waste of time, in particular during year 12, and find it far more effective to apply the theory and smash out questions. Just my two cents.

make them from day 1 by hand, the process of making it helps heaps.

I personally prefer typed. I've tried both out and didn't find any difference in regards to remembering them. I found writing them all out to be very time consuming and impractical, which then eats into time you could use doing other study methods (i.e - practice exams, learning activities, etc.)

What I like about typing notes:
- Quick and convenient
- Can use different fonts, colours, highlighters, etc to identify key terms.
- Easy to obtain diagrams and images to add to the document.
- Can easily backspace if you make errors.
- Easier to keep organised.

Hope this helps! :)

I find that its the biggest waste of time.
I'd rather read over something then write it then have to read over it anyway for long term memory storage.
Each to their own.

Typed notes just feel so much better and if you've got shocking handwriting well then writing down notes isn't really worth it.

Handwriting helps memory, but if you're studying off your notes, ploughing through a mess of handwriting is far harder to learn off than something clear, concise and easy to read.  Editing and clarity is a million times easier!

However, I do find that for studying, it can be helpful to handwrite brief notes that will never make sense if you read them later... This is just handwriting for the sake of helping your memory, rather than for making notes for later in the year.
