So I thought I might do some volunteering in order to gain experience. I applied to the Salvos not long ago and just received an email from them. They want me to come in and discuss my application. I know it's not a job but I'm still nervous as heck. What sort of questions will they ask me?

Hey! I did volunteering at salvos last year and all they asked for was my availability haha
I don't think they'll be too fussy considering you're volunteering but dressing appropriately and smiling always helps.
Good luck :)

Oh, I see! Thank you, haha. :)

How did you find them? I guess it differs from store to store but I've heard some pretty awful things about them which I'm a bit worried about.

There's a store within walking distance from my house so I applied there.
What kind of awful things? :/
At my place the staff were generally nice and the store manager was a little scary (in a good way).

There's been a lot of accusations about them regarding their treatment of LGBTA individuals.

Obviously I don't want to volunteer for people like this. But it's hard to tell if it's their general belief or just the belief of a few idiots they employed.

They're a religious organisation and have always been very clear on their stance on homosexuality, namely that they don't approve of it. It's one of the reasons I don't donate to them.

From their website
Quote
International Mission Statement of The Salvation Army: ‘The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based upon the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in his name without discrimination.’

Quote
The Salvation Army teaches that sexual acts should take place only in a monogamous heterosexual marriage, believing that this reflects God’s intentions for sexual behaviour and provides the best environment for raising children.

Oh wow ._.
This is my first time hearing anything about this...
Well personally I'm not religious and don't partake in any of those beliefs. I only volunteered at salvos for two months and during that time I didn't witness any discriminatory behaviour/attitudes. If you're really worried though you can always find volunteering opportunities else where :)
