At my current workplace, there is a minimum requirement to accept 70% of shifts which is equivalent to 1 shift per week (which might be anywhere from 3 to 6 hours). Obviously with no second casual job, I try to take as many shifts that they offer me as I can (which is maybe 2 or 3 shifts per week).

My university timetable this semester will be 24 contact hours. The other casual job i'm applying for pays more on weekends than my current job which is why i'm compelled to apply.

I would rather not quit my current job as i've only worked there for a year, but would full time study of 24 contact hours + 2 casual jobs  be way too much for me to handle?

Why are you not interested in quitting your current job? Do you really have a particular loyalty to a casual position?
If it was me, I'd be taking the better paying job that fits my schedule better. 2 jobs in your first year of postgrad would be a pain unless you were on top of things from the get go.

Because my current job is quite flexible (I have the option to decline 30% of shifts through the online rostering system). The job i'm thinking of applying for hasn't specified how many hours they require you to work per week.

If you work more than 12 hours per week, it will impact your studies. I was working an average of 15-20 hours per week during the semester and 20-25 hours per week during exams (I even worked a 29 hour week during exams), and it definitely had a negative impact on my grades. If you don't desperately need the money, I would avoid getting a second job and working excess hours.

Thanks for the advice. After taking your comments into consideration and rethinking about it, I won't apply for this second job. At this point in my studies, I think flexibility of shifts predominates over wage so i'll just look around for other casual jobs offered solely during the summer season next time round.
