So I'm looking at timetables for my subjects and need some help. For example intro microeconomics has 2 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour tute. Do I need to place the tute after both lectures or in between or something? Or I can just have it whenever it won't matter?

Tutorials cover the content in the previous week's lectures, so it doesn't matter when you have the tutorial.

For most subjects yes, no tutorials. Others might have random introduction stuff. It will be communicated to you via the LMS so turn up unless you hear otherwise.

Aren't they just saying that so there's no server overload? Or will those subjects actually stay closed until 2 pm?

Are practicals (for calc 1) similar to tutorials in that they cover previous weeks work?

Yes.
I'm pretty sure the only exception to the 'cover last weeks content' rule are seminars.

Two questions:

Does the 'starts 5 mins late, finishes 5 mins early' rule apply to tutorials?
I have an Eng tut from 2.15-3.15 and can choose a History tut either at 3.15, or later at 4.15. They are both in the same building (757 Swanston) but different rooms (605, and 705 respectively).
Obviously if I could make it to the 3.15 History tut on time I will definitely choose that. Advice?

My other question is if anybody knows if Arts Foundation subject lectures are recorded (or the slides/notes)? - I hate missing lectures in person (I already had to switch history subjects to avoid a clash, ugh) but I literally have nothing on a Tuesday other than my one-hour 'Language' lecture and I can imagine there will be some days where I can't be bothered with 2.5 hours of total travel for one lecture...

Thanks!!

Yes, the 5 min thing applies to tutes in Arts as well. And if you're doing Lit & Performance as your Eng subject, you'll probably be let out early on occasion if the tutor runs out of things to discuss (as happened to me quite a bit last year.)
Try to schedule them back to back, especially with them being so close. (605 means room 5 on floor 6, 705 is room 5, 7th floor, and I believe there's a staircase close to that end of the building.) Don't do what I did and put 1-2 hour blocks between classes - a ~1 hour wait is longer than it seems :)

I know the slides are definitely put up on the LMS for Foundation subjects, but whether or not the lectures are recorded is at the discretion of the coordinator. Most will upload the recordings (and I believe Language did last year) but it's quite common for lecturers to threaten taking down recordings if lecture attendance dwindles. If it's at an inconvenient time, go for weeks one and two to get a feel for the subject, then you should be able to skip if you find it's under control. Worst case scenario, you could come in on Tuesdays and just chill in a library or catch up with friends. Tuesday 12:00 till 2:00 is when a lot of social/club-related/free food fun stuff happens on South Lawn anyway :)

Thank you so much!! Yes I will definitely try to get into that 3.15 tutorial then, and get home an hour earlier. :) wish me luck!

As for the lectures, thanks, I'm sure I will go in most Tuesdays but hopefully the recordings will be there in case I don't feel up to the journey.

Fingers crossed registering goes well tomorrow! Thanks again. :)
