hi guys. I know that it is not a "must" for medicine at Monash uni but previously it was recommended. now I am in yr12 and I am thinking of continuing or dropping bio and allocate that time to extra  study other subjects. also I have to mention that I have 6 subjects without bio and with bio I would have 7 subject . I would appreciate if any body can help me.
thanks  ;D ;D ;D ;D

It does help a bit, but if you've got 6 subjects already I wouldn't bother. There is a bridging course offered for new meddies.

firstly thank you for replying....
Once I called Monash uni and I asked them the same question and they said " it is not clear exactly that what do the selection panel consider in detail but directly it doesn't help". but the point is how much does it help, if it helps even a little bit, it might be an advantage.  ??? ???

It only really helps for semester 1 of year 1. In terms of the grand scheme of the degree (noting that first year is the least important), it doesn't help much.

It doesn't aid your admission into the course.

Does not help in preparation for the UMAT.

That's correct, other than an academic advantage for a semester (psych would help equally if not more imo), it doesn't really help.

Regarding your PM (I'd prefer people post on the forum and not PM me given many people have similar issues), I wouldn't do bio. You're doing physics, which I personally detest, but I wouldn't add an extra subject to the mix when you're doing UMAT as well.

No they would not. The "selection panel" is most likely a computer inputting ATAR (with SEAS/rural), UMAT and Interview scores anyway.

currently in yr12 I am doing physics, chemistry, maths methods, EAL and bio. last year I did further maths(47raw ,46.4 scaled) and LOTE (39 raw,39.8 or 38.2 scaled).also I have to practice for UMAT this year. from the start of the year I am thinking about doing or dropping bio but I didn't do anything until I would reach to a solid conclusion. Can I ask mr.pi ,if you were in my shoes would you do bio or no???

sorry for asking too many questions... :-[ :-[ :-[

It's only been 10 minutes, chill dude.

It's up to you, do you have an interest in bio? It's not going to make a noticeable difference to getting into med but do you think you would get a higher score in bio rather than another subject?

Hey medy:

Bio would be quite useful to do for Monash MBBS. Not essential, and there's a bridging course, and it won't advantage you in getting in, but I found actually doing bio has been helpful and I still feel the benefits of doing it, even to this day as a fourth year. :)

If you enjoy the subject, I'd certainly keep it.

I love physics, method and chemistry. I am okay with bio but I prefer not to do it.I did bio 1&2 last year and I was the top student but it took me a lot of time.I am really good in science and maths subjects.
my only concern is bio's unclear benefit for getting into MBBS.my worst subject is English(EAL) but I would improve it by end of the year.
Now I am deciding whether to keep bio or drop it.I am thinking maybe it can be my 6th subject and replace my LOTE(39) by maybe a 42, I don't know just a guess..

There is no benefit in that regard.

As Thushan said, if you enjoy it then pick it up, if you don't then don't pick it up. We can't answer that for you.
