Not sure if this would be considered news-worthy by some of you, but here it is nonetheless: http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/music/australia-and-austria-to-compete-in-eurovision-2015-20150211-13b9o9.html

I think I just shed a tear. <3

And by the way, just a shout out that this is actually a subject at The University of Melbourne: https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2015/EURO10002
(I am so tempted to take this subject; I'm just afraid at all the essay-based assessment D:)

Definitely news-worthy, but I can't think of any Australians who would be able to top Conchita.

Well, I wish eurovision was a proper song contest but it definitely isn't. Neighboring countries give votes to each other..it's kinda boring...Australians might break that rule with its multicultural population if they let them vote :D

It's funny you mention that, since the online commentary regarding the decision is actually rather interesting, thought-provoking and somewhat complex.

I hope we do better than our interval act last year. It was seriously cringe-worthy.

I liked Jessica Mauboy's song, but she got nervous and didn't sing it very well. Just compare her performance there to when she sang at the Commonwealth Games.

Speaking of which, I like Sia as an option because she's got impeccable vocals and is a bit quirky, a bit different and a bit out there, which always goes down well at Eurovision. Although, I doubt she'll throw her hat (wig?) in the ring knowing 195 million people could be watching her.

I am going to put my bet on Australia doing horribly. If we want to win we need to do something outrageous, unexpected and talk worthy..... which won't happen.

^ Yet the vocals still need to be good to please the jury votes. This is why Sia makes the logical choice, but she won't do it.

Most of the other options though can sing pretty well. I'm just concerned over the other aspects of the performance.

I understand nations which are relatively close geographically as well as culturally (or otherwise in regards to the latter)  to Europe participating, like some countries in Northern Africa or West Asia, but they might as well change the name to 'global vision' with Australia in it.

Australia just doesn't fit in Eurovision. (Personally I don't like the contest to begin with, just doesn't do it for me).

Oh i agree but i think we do need someone who could perform under pressure, i really do wanna play this to win.

Participation in Eurovision is actually based on being a member of the European Broadcasting Union and not being geographically located in Europe. It explains Israel, Azerbaijan, etc. Australia is actually an associate member.
