I think your problem is that you are interchanging the words 'Solvent' and 'Solute' when, actually they are two different things.

For example, using your definition:

Diffusion of a solvent (usually water molecules) through a semipermeable membrane from an area of low solute concentration (but HIGH solvent concentration) to an area of high solute concentration (but LOW solvent concentration).

Now applying it to this example:
Hope I cleared that up. :)
