Hey guys! Asking a question in behalf of a friend of mine.

She is doing biomed/law and wants to transfer into arts/law at Monash but the units in biomed are hard for her to do well in cos she doesn't like biomed at all and so she thinks she won't be able to get the marks to transfer. Someone suggested that she just pick 1 or two easy units from arts (i.e. first year units) so that way she can even get credit for those units if she successfully transfers. Is that actually possible? Would she get in trouble for doing so when applying to transfer and they see that the units are not from biomed? Or would it be better for her to just choose 'easy' law units or electives (do those even exist? Haha) What do you guys suggest? Also, what sort of average should she be looking at to transfer between double degrees? I heard it was the same as normal transfers into law but can someone confirm? Are they ever nice enough to provide an exception if she has valid reasoning as to why she wants to transfer? Anyone who was in a similar position that successfully transferred between law double degrees? Really wanna help her out cos she's in a really bad mindset at the moment.

Thanks guys :D

I don't think so, purely because in a double degree there is no space for electives. Looking in the handbook, the entirety of the degree seems to be planned out from day 1. Your friend can certainly try by looking into WES and changing the units, but she's gotta be sure she's going to get that transfer, or she could get in some serious trouble.

Or would it be better for her to just choose 'easy' law units or electives (do those even exist? Haha)

A unit in the legal practices, with a theoretical understanding, of quantum entanglement and the engineering of related devices could be the easiest unit you've ever done if you're interested in it.

I maintain that no matter what type of unit or elective you are doing, it is easy if you enjoy it. There are some units that the majority tend to enjoy, and so people will say are easy electives - however, I have first hand done poorly in those units because of a lack of interest, then conversely done incredibly well in units most people say are incredibly difficult and that they could never do them.

What do you guys suggest?

I suggest doing the units she finds most interesting. Or, dropping the biomed portion and sticking to just the law side of things, so she's not troubled by the biomed side which (according to you) she will not get a HD in. I'm fairly sure it's possible to drop one of the degrees if you're in a double, I could be wrong - even if she can't do that, though, she can definitely make sure she only picks units from one side of the degree for the first few years, although it will mean the last few years will only be the other side of the double.

Also, what sort of average should she be looking at to transfer between double degrees? I heard it was the same as normal transfers into law but can someone confirm?

Can confirm. :P

Are they ever nice enough to provide an exception if she has valid reasoning as to why she wants to transfer? Anyone who was in a similar position that successfully transferred between law double degrees? Really wanna help her out cos she's in a really bad mindset at the moment.

And I can't help you out here, I've not heard any such anecdotes.
