what to do in terms of study during these term holidays

hi everyone

so now it's the holidays and I guess this would be a perfect use of time to either catch up or get ahead on schoolwork, other than doing hw ofc.

tbh, last term I did not do as well in my SACs and I was often behind in class. Should I revise over what we learnt in term 1, to save time before exams? or should I try and go ahead of the course and begin preparing for AoS2?

thanks in advance :)

Personally, I'm doing a bit of both.

Week 1 - I'm revising

Week 2 - Trying to get ahead.

Aos 1 is done and dusted. Do not waste time and go over the content again at all. Aos 2 is approaching, and you say you want to attain better SAC scores this term, then what's the point of going back to Aos 1 work, that won't help you for next term! So my word of advice is, get ahead. Even if you don't understand everything that you do whilst getting ahead, you are still exposing yourself to the type of content that is upcoming, that is, you are preparing for what might come in SACs earlier, so you have more time to ask the wonderful threads of AN, teachers (this would be my last resort) or peers about anything you are not 100% certain in (content wise). For example, I am currently doing limits and gradients in methods (getting ahead), I understand about 75% of what I'm doing, but Its okay, because when I redo it with my class I will probably help some people (which solidifies knowledge) and I can ask questions in class. That being said, you should never feel discomforted if you don't understand what you are doing whilst getting ahead, concepts and theories do not click in instantly (unless you're someone like lxznl or some prodigy like that). Give the content some time, and I promise you will understand it eventually!

So to wrap it up, don't worry about last term, try to get ahead as much as possible, even if you are not understanding everything. This is a new term, a new start. Go get it! :) <3

I'm going to go against Cosine a bit here and say that I find it just as important to revise. This does not need to be extremely in-depth however. I say this because of the way memory works and the 'spacing effect' (look it up!). Going over the content again a few weeks after learning it in school strengthens your memory of it heaps by making sure it stays there and doesn't slowly fade due to disuse. Butttt, definitely start doing term 2 prep like Cosine said, since more exposure aids in better understanding of the concepts. Lastly, remember to have some fun and go out and just relax in general. That's what holidays are partly for too so don't forgot it. :)

Completing exam-style questions as a source of revision is a good start ;)

holidays are a great time to relearn all the shit you didnt learn properly during the term because you were focussing on other subjects

To the OP: I answered a very similar question like this on the Class of 2015 page, which you can visit about halfway down the page here. Give those tips a shot.

I would revise mostly and start on the new content later in the holidays. A strong foundation can lead to a strong building, but a weak foundation will never get you anywhere far.
