hahah it was meant to be an essay question, shit joke leave me alone :p
100% agree with you. Even if they are worried about his footy starting to fade, he still deserves to leave on his own terms. He's good for the club and having that kind of guy around is good for the other players there too.
Also, can you imagine how all the other players would be feeling about that? As if you'd want to commit to a club that treats its "greats" like that.
I can see their reasoning for it though. Boomer is currently taking one of the main midfield roles - he probably only has 1 more season left in him anyway. The fact is, we're slowly declining and everyone knows it. We have people in the VFL that need experience (if anyone can recall last year's draft, we actually got some pretty decent people who have barely played any games because they're taking up spots in seniors). There's no way in hell we're sustainable past the next 1-2 years. Need to look at the bigger picture. (
This in no way means I am for Boomer not being renewed, because i'm quite angry at the decision... but it had to happen sooner or later)
I don't like the timing of it either given it's nearly finals -
but I can understand why they've done that too. It'll most likely be our last Melbourne game for the season (given there's a strong chance we'll have to travel interstate for a final, v GWS @ Spotless being the most likely outcome), so for everyone to celebrate the achievements is great. It's no easy task beating a team on their home ground, especially in a final.
Everyone's blaming Brad Scott for these players not being resigned, but they clearly have no idea what a list manager is.
