For all that they are criticised, non-standard varities are as interesting as the expected norm. We should not be so concerned about what's proper, in language but what what is appropiate, do you agree.
The ideas I have are
  • They allow for expression of Identity
  • They allow for the mimising of social distance
that's it, is there anything else, or something you can add to my ideas, cheers :)
lets reignite the english language forum guys :D

It all comes down to how language choice corresponds to the social context.

Non-standard varieties can:
  • Result in greater efficiency of communication
  • Be inclusive/exclusive, leading to better social rapport between speakers
  • Form identity
  • Reflect social values of the speech community
  • Allow for code-switching to better facilitate context-dependent communication
  • Lead to covert prestige
  • Front language change, which is never-ending and necessary

Pretty much.

Just because a variety is improper when compared to SAE, it doesn't mean it is inappropriate right? Because non-standard varieties (NSV's) create a dichotomy in terms of in-group members and the excluded world (for example gamers using acronyms such as GGWP) which in turn develops social rapport between the participants (the use of GGWP moulds a mutual bond) . In building social rapport, covert prestige is created in order to distinguish members of the NSV as the interlocutors can relate on a linguistic level. Due to this linguistic variety, which descriptivists are fond of, NSV's facilitate eased communication and proficiency in expression - heavily dependent on the social context.

You could really make that^ into 4 strong paragraphs.
