I have been doing a few Unit 3 Lisachem and STAV trial exams. Examples:
If asked for say height of the lava bomb and I write 101.3m whilst the Lisachem answer is 101.25 m. Will I lose marks?
Similarly the kinetic energy of the canister answer was 337.5 J and Lisachem answer reads 340 J. Will I lose marks?
Speed of skateboard answer written as 3.38 m s whilst the STAV answer was 3.4 m s. Is my answer incorrect?
Magnitude of the friction force answer -I wrote 8.82 x 10 raised to -1 N whilst STAV answer was 0.88 N. Is my answer incorrect?
Would be happy to have your feedback. Thanks in advance.
It looks like all your answers were only different because of how much you rounded/did not round the answers. This is not something that the VCAA minds about in Physics (different story for chem though), so you wouldn't lose marks as long as you're not giving answers like 67.8235135034798 with a stupid amount of accuracy. Use your better judgement, you can probably go to 1 or 2 decimal places depending on the scale of the problem, right?
In particular, your answer

is a bit tedious and I would prefer the non- scientific notation version since it's just 0.882, but I wouldn't take away a mark for it.
If you know about significant figures, you can use that as a guide. Try to leave your answers in about as much accuracy as the data given in the question. If they're giving you numbers to 2 decimal places, round your answer to 2 decimal places. etc.
