SEAS for Medicine

Hey guys, was just wondering if you knew anyone who made it through to medicine at monash through their SEAS program. According to their website, if you are eligible for seas, you require a 94+ ATAR and 180+ UMAT. Is this true and do you know anyone who is studying medicine because of this program.

I'm pretty sure it's a 94 atar and 180 umat for a guaranteed interview, if you apply with the 'Monash guarantee" not seas.
Don't worry about scores that you can't change  because there are so many more productive things you could do

I know people who have made into med with SEAS (non-rural stuff), they're ATARs were 97+ and UMATs within interview range. If your SEAS is something rural the threshold is much lower.

They're the exact same thing, really.

What UMAT raw scores would be required to be "competitive" for MBBS monash in a rural, but not eligible for monash guarantee situation?

I've heard of someone getting in with 60%ile and an ATAR that was around 90, must have had a stellar interview. It really varies and no one can say for sure. Higher the better of course.

Probably wrong thread to ask this, but since we're talking about UMAT, how are our percentiles actually calculated? Like i know there is 3 sections, but how many questions per section and does every question equal the same marks? Is there even marks or do they just take our rank?

Cheers.

All the info of how many questions per section can be found in the UMAT handbook produced by ACER http://umat.acer.edu.au/files/UMAT_info_book_15.pdf (edit: upon having a quick glance I can't see anything about question number, maybe they don't disclose that any more?)

No one knows exactly how scores are calculated. Each question may be worth the same, they may not. I've got good anecdotal evidence to suggest that not all individual section scores are possible (ie. if you get everything correct on a section you don't get "1 score" higher "or a score that corresponds with a percentage" higher than someone who gets 1 question wrong). It's all very magical, no one but ACER knows. And to be honest, why bother worrying about it when you can't do anything about it?

Thanks pi, not worrying man just curious xD
I will just try my best, and if that's enough to get me in, then that's just a luxury for me and I will forever grateful. If not, that's not going to stop me from trying my best to get into medicine!

There isn't one anymore :P

Use this thread as a guide for previous years The "Will I get an interview/offer with this UMAT?" query for med and dent
(btw if anyone can be bothered finding me new stats for 2015 entry from that thread I'd be grateful, I cannot be bothered updating it myself)

Hello,

I apologise if this is already information that you know as it's all I have.
A certain amount of places in MBBS are reserved each year. This number varies each year due to some magical unknown variable, so I can't tell you the amount of places.
As long as you get that ATAR of 94 and a UMAT of 180 (roughly 90%ile, if I remember correctly), you're eligible for a place as you're only competing against others attempting to gain entry through the Monash Guarantee.
Those with the highest combination of ATAR, UMAT and interview score are taken from that prospective group.

I've done some research myself, and can't find anyone who has entered MBBS through the Monash Guarantee, but if I find anything I'll do my best to spread the word.

How do we apply for the Monash guarantee? Is it when VTAC opens too?

You must (obviously) list the designated Monash course on your VTAC course preference, submit a SEAS application and a scholarship application.

Further information can be found here (http://www.study.monash/how-to-apply/special-admissions/the-monash-guarantee ) and here (http://www.study.monash/how-to-apply/special-admissions/the-monash-guarantee/faqs ).
