Best Way to Prepare for English Language 3/4?

Hey all -
I'm a bit worried going into EL 3/4, as it was my best subject last semester (I'm in Year 11, and my school only runs Unit 1) and I know some top English kids are going to be joining the class for the 3/4 Units.
I want to be ready to do as well as I can, so I come to you for advice; any tips for being as ready as possible for next year? I know this is a bit early for this thread, but I'm an early bird when it comes to these things. Also; is there any content in Unit 2 that would be of value to learn? My school obviously decided not, but I'm thinking that I might check it out anyway. Anything to get ahead!
Thanks all. :)

I'm probably not the best to give advice, but I can say that Unit 2 is pretty much irrelevant when going into 3/4. The only thing that you'll pretty much is from Unit 1 - Metalanguage. Knowing your subsystems (e.g. phonology, lexicology etc) and names of the features that go under each subsystem (e.g. ellision), and how those features work/are used. You will need to know these because you'll be using them all throughout 3/4 when analyzing a text or writing a commentary/essay.

Good luck :)

Hey there!

I would recommend going through ALL metalanguage as this will save you an immense amount of time in Year 12. I would also be reading through sample A+ essay responses to see what an excellent essay looks like. I would also get a head start in Unit 3 by going through some key content and comprehending it in full detail. Yes, this will take time, but that is what will allow you to dominate Year 12!

I hope this helps :)
