What are you guys doing now?

(sorry if this is in the wrong place, didn't know where to put it in exactly)

Hey :) I'm starting this post just because I'm wondering what you're all doing now, whether you're finishing/finished high school or university. Like are you going to keep studying, are you trying to find a job, are you currently working in your dream job etc etc. Basically, i just wanted to make this to see what everyone else has done so far (do i sound really nosy? :-\) but yeah I'm just genuinely curious to what everyone on this forum is doing.

Sorry again if this is in the wrong place or if there's already a post similar to this one
Thanks  :D

At the moment? Frantically trying to pass my fourth year of uni haha.

What's next? On the assumption that all goes well this year, next year I'm hoping to either progress to my fifth and final year of the degree, or pursue an honours research year involving neuroradiology. Pro's and con's with each, with the former I'd get things over quickly and graduate with all my mates, but with the latter I'll have a chance to take a break and develop some new skills whilst doing something that I have a strong interest in. Either way, hopefully fun times ahead! :)

After the next year or two, who really knows. I'll hopefully be in the workforce, hopefully get into a training program I enjoy, hopefully begin to slowly work my way up the very high ladder that is medicine.

Early days for me :P

Well... I'm currently training/working in aged care, learning to make bea-you-ti-ful tucks in beds and put nappies on old people and to dodge the more-than-occasional flying whack from a dementia resident who doesn't want a shower.

And you know how doctors (i.e. half the guys on this forum) all look waaaayyyy down on nurses?  Well, the nurses all look waaaayyyy down on my level.  Oh, it's fun.

No actually, I'm really enjoying it, and I'm (currently) finding it an extremely challenging and rewarding job, just because it's so physical and full-on.  Finished VCE last year, btw, and intended this to put off decisions for a year, but no clue where to go from here, currently.

How bout you? :) (OP)
VCE (2014): HHD, Bio, English, T&T, Methods

That sounds so cool!  ;D The honors degree sounds really fascinating and it would probably go really well for you since you've expressed an interest in it but then the last year of your degree would probably also be equally fascinating and I don't really know where I'm going with this anymore haha. I'm sure you'll pass this year and (maybe, if you choose it) the following year as well. Hopefully you continue to stay this motivated for the following years since you'll need it for medicine :)
Not sure if this came across as motivational as I wanted to or if it just shows my complete lack of knowledge (as I'm currently in Year 11) but I hope you continue to survive and you can still laugh about things afterwards :) Hang in there!!

Finishing Honours, and having the daily existential crisis.

But seriously. Finishing Honours, hoping to get into a PhD next year and continue on with a research carrier.

Also sounds really fascinating! Yeah it probably is very trying and sometimes you probably feel like you'd want to quit but honestly I'm just glad that you seem to be enjoying it (makes me want to have you look after me if I get put in an aged care place lol)

Me? I'm currently trying to survive year 11 methods (I'm dropping it at the end of this year) hahah I'm not mathematically inclined like most people on this forum but I am glad that I did do it this year, to test my mathematical boundaries and myself :) I'm taking up Classics in its place which should be really exciting since I've always loved the history of ancient cultures and societies. But I seriously have no idea what to do when I leave high school (can't believe I have one year left eek!) but I'm currently thinking of doing an arts/law degree or quite possibly just a plain old arts degree and then doing law (if i get into melb).
But yeah, I'm basically still undecided at this point in time but I really just want to go to uni and use that time to explore more options and what I'd be interested in :)

Finishing Honours, and having the daily existential crisis.
First year of uni and already having existential crises  ;)

I'm hoping to major in psych/neuro and then go onto research!! Such a change from last year when I wanted to be a nurse/occupational therapist. I'll probably change my mind again next year though! Just goes to show that you don't need to have everything figured out right away.

Haha no problem! Just trying to spread some daily cheer in people's stressful lives (my assumption haha) :)

Wow!  :o That sounds so amazing!! Is it weird that I'm excited for you to finish your Honours/maybe start your PhD?? Hopefully the next couple of years goes well for you and you're existential crises (that looks really wrong lol) don't impact too much on you! Ganbatte senpais!!  ;D ;D (I'm not japanese I just watch/read too much anime/manga!)

Haha don't worry, I'm already having so many crises in year 11  :-\ :-\
That sounds amazing!! what's been your favourite part of your degree so far? I'm glad that you're doing something you enjoy and even though you had to change and you're expecting yourself to change, I think that's just a normal part of the growing up and maturing process :) (can you tell i say this to myself to keep myself motivated?) ahah but hopefully you're degree goes well and so does your research :) even if you change again, just remember that it's your choice and your life, no one else can tell you what you should be doing because it's your own place in life that you're dictating for yourself :)

Currently in my last semester of my IT degree, which is pretty good. Deciding whether or not I want to complete Honours, but that'll be a matter of deciding towards the end of the year. I'm also a tutor/lab demonstrator at my university, teaching IT/Compsci students as well (a bit of cash on the side, plus valuable experience). Hoping to enter education somewhere down the track, whether that's secondary teaching or tertiary, i'm not 100% on that yet either.

I'm currently trying to stay a float in the sea that is Chemistry in B.Sci. Aiming to get into medicine like most of my cohort (haha) but the odds are against me with Monash and Flinders closing their doors and the amount of highly intelligent people in B.Sci that I've met so far. Although my ideal/dream job is surgery I don't mind going into a post-grad course that focuses on immunology.

Job wise, I'm currently jobless and will most likely stay so until my undergrad finishes. In the mean time I've been looking into volunteering positions and in the process for applying for them.

Well... I'm currently training/working in aged care, learning to make bea-you-ti-ful tucks in beds and put nappies on old people and to dodge the more-than-occasional flying whack from a dementia resident who doesn't want a shower.

Props to you for doing this! My supervisor during my work experience at a hospital told me how much he hated working in aged care because of the things you mentioned. He also said that most health professionals that he had worked with didn't enjoy it as well. Again I applaud you

Congrats on almost finishing your degree!  ;) It sounds pretty interesting that you're a tutor/lab demonstrator as well, I'm guessing it's somewhat easy to do along with a demanding degree? It's great that you're considering teaching, would that be in IT solely? Bonne chance for the future, wherever it takes you! (Apologising for the french, I'm currently studying procrastinating for my french SAC tomorrow hahah whoops)

I've only ever done some time in Aged Care Psychiatry, can confirm it is a challenging rotation. I think patients who suffer from dementia are very difficult to manage (due to no fault of their own!) and I really admire the staff who work around that patient demographic.

It was at the start, but since I'm in my last semester now with weekly assessment for 4 subjects... it really is all about time management for me which i'm currently handling at the moment. This experience is so valuable for my future aspirations, so I try not to think about the difficulty :P

IT and Mathematics. I've got the requirements to teach in Maths as well. Benefits of a degree with room to move via electives!
