Englang Weekly Commentary Thread

Evening all,

Inspired by bangali_lok's weekly la club, I thought I would make a similar thread for those of us studying the superior stream of English.

So, every week I will post a text and if you feel like writing a commentary, go ahead and post it! Also, you must mark someone else's if you post, otherwise there isnt much point to it.

Anyway, the first text is below:

I didn't really know how to go about finding a suitable text (usually teacher just gives them to us), but I think this one is pretty good. Tbh I just skimmed over it, but I'm sure theres something worth analysing in there.

The context: 15/9/15 (I think, but after he was sworn in), at a doorstop interview (basically where the press just interview them off the cuff, although its not really 100% spontaneous obviously). Make sure you refer to both individual and group identity, very important in this one as it is one of his first speeches as Prime Minister.

I'm gonna write up a practise tomorrow (got a chem prac exam first) and post it up. If anyone else wants to post before then, please do-the lang forum is pretty quiet these days, so dont be scared!
