What is the difference between finding the domain of a function and finding the maximal domain function?

They are generally the same thing, the maximal domain is the set of points where a function exists.

For example: Find the maximal domain of y = 2x +1
This would just be all real numbers

Find the maximal domain of y =1/x + 1
Theres an assyntope at x = 0 and y = 1. So the maximal domain is all real numbers excluding 0
Maximal domain and domain are not the same thing. They are defined differently,

E.g., the maximal domain of would be . However, I can define the function to have domain , in which case the domain would be .

In short, the maximal domain is defined as the set of all real numbers for which the function is defined at, while the domain can be any subset of the maximal domain.

Uh, (1, 5] is not a subset of R\{3}... see what happens when you do too much advanced maths TT! :)

haha rephrase that to be "... a particular subset"

Are you aware the calculator has a domain function?

Look in catalogue.

the domain function gives maximal domain and not a specific domain :P
