Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble deciding on one of my preferences. I have Monash Science/Arts double degree down as one of my preferences but I'm not sure whether I should or not.
Basically, my main goal is to do a science degree. That is what I plan on pursuing in the future. Also during uni, wherever I end up, I want to start learning a language (Italian). Most uni's offer a diploma of languages to do alongside your degree, so I was pretty set with my choices. However I've always been interested in History, Languages and Philosophy. That kind of stuff. So I thought a double degree would be a good choice to combine all my interests together. The thing is I've never formally had any education in any of those subjects (well the basic 7 - 10 history, but obviously no VCE exposure), plus English (VCE subject) and essays definitely aren't my forte. My question is, is it worth going into a double degree without even knowing if you like subjects? I mean I can play assassin's creed, read Percy Jackson and browse the internet as much as I like, but I don't know how doing that compares with learning it all in a formal setting.
Should I go into the double degree, find out if I like it or not and decide whether to drop it from there? What would happen if I end up disliking them and score badly. Would this effect my WAM, GPA etc? I would probably want to end up doing an honours year eventually, would and crappy scores effect that? If that is the case should I just enter into the single science degree and take the introductory history/philosophy subjects as electives. That way if I don't end up liking them it won't effect me as much and if I do I can make an attempt to transfer into the double.
I probably dragged this out a bit, but any help or advice would be appreciated
