hey
pretty much says it in the title
i was wandering what the jump is like from physics in yr 11 and physics in yr 12
and by how much does the average grade change (or how much did yours change)
i know thats kinda difficult to tell cos everyones different, but I'm just after opinions :)

thanks in advance :)

Barely any harder

I actually improved on my grades because I could get more resources, so you have nothing to worry about if you out in the hard yards

Keep in mind the entire course is completely changing from '16 and will actually have content that is interesting, so be wary of any advice given here.

3/4 physics is not changing next year, only 1/2. 3/4 is set to change in 2017.

You might want to take a look at the SD... http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/vce/physics/PhysicsSD-2016.pdf

TLDR: For 1/2 it's completely different:

Lots of cool new detailed studies including finding exoplanets, alien life possibilities, forces on the human body and more which you should really take a look if you're doing it!, thermodynamics is now aos 1

3/4 is similar but some major differences:

Special rel is now a core aos, fields are now a core aos encapsulating magnetic/electric/gravitational fields. Motion and L&M are mostly unchanged discounting the addition of Special Rel.

If you're graduating in 2016 you still have the same physics course, (1/2 rolls out in 2016, but the first 3/4 new SD exam is going to be 2017 not 16) :)

Oh this reminds me, do you know whether the methods and specialist new study design changes for units 3 and 4 is taking place next year?

almost 100% sure it isn't. the year 11s of this year will be the first to go
through the new course. So the first year 12 to go through it will be the year 12s of 2016 for all subjects. though I'm not 100% sure
but I'm doing year 12 in 2016 and i know i have to get the new books

hey

Hey. In my case, I improved considerably this year. Last year I had no idea what was going on, and I hated Physics. I didn't have any basic grasp of mechanics or anything. Even in the beginning of this year, I struggled heaps. I got 60% on my first SAC (Motion), even though I studied heaps. Our next SAC was electronics, and I did really well (80%, it was a REALLY easy paper, he practically gave it to us the week before the actual SAC). This gave me confidence, and I went on to become rank 1.

I would say that I improved because I just did questions. I started the year carefully curating a set of notes, but as that didn't help, I ditched that and just did heaps of questions.

To succeed in VCE Physics, repetition is the key. You'll start to understand stuff as you do questions. Also, as Odeaa said, there are way more resources.

Enjoy!

I went from averaging about 95% last year to about 80% this year (from rank 1 to rank 3 if that makes more sense)

Fair to say, I was incredibly lazy in the way I went about it this year. I didn't really study at all, I sat down and did questions for a couple hours before each SAC, but that was about it

If you put in the hard work though, this won't happen and you should find it quite comfortable. The cheat sheet really makes things a lot easier  :)

Hi guys,
Little bit off topic.. but, what resources do you recommend for 3/4 physics?
Cheers.

Nope. The VCAA website has the accreditation dates for each study design.
