What do I need to catch up on if I haven't done 1/2 Bio?

You wont need to cover any 1/2 work, everything should be covered again, and there isn't really any assumed knowledge.

It wouldn't hurt to learn about cell organelles, cell membrane, transport proteins and nerve impulses/action potentials which are all covered in both unit 1 and 3

I'm in the nothing camp. Enjoy your holidays and maybe read ahead for 3/4 Don't waste your time with units 1/2

I did bio without 1/2 and it was a little difficult. See if you can get your hands on the bio 3/4 A+ brand of notes, they're expensive but well worth it. I'd say try and learn all of the prokaryote/eukaryote organelle stuff and maybe do a little reading on the other cellular aspects that brussix mentioned (membranes, transport etc). You don't need to do too much but a little bit of light reading will help you understand some of the definitions when you do actually start the course

I would personally get straight into the 3/4 course as everything that is relevant from 1/2 is pretty much repeated in the 3/4 course to the same extent. No disadvantage not doing units 1/2 Bio :-)

I agree too  , units 1/2 particularly unit 1 is repeated. Unit 2 is almost scrapped imo!
A funny anecdote though
During orientation my chosen subjects resulted in 6 or so unit 1/2 bio students including myself being placed in combined units 3/4 class with year 10's who wanted to do units 1/2. The first double session was my bio teacher getting strange looks from clueless students on simple biological concepts. The next lesson was a bit better since it was recapping what they did in yr 10 biochem and the last session was him explaining to them how to use the textbook. It was a great week

definitely solidify your knowledge on cell organelles and their functions

if you want a head start cover some core/possibly tricky concepts such as photosynthesis (know the balanced equation), cellular respiration, evolution, the immune response, transcription and translation

have a look on youtube and khanacademy, theres heaps on info there
