Hey guys!
My name is Victor Lin and I graduated from Melbourne Grammar School in 2013 with a
perfect ATAR of 99.95. Having completed a
Bachelor of Biomedicine in 2016 as a Chancellor's Scholar at the University of Melbourne, I am currently studying a
Doctor of Medicine. I have been tutoring Maths Methods (CAS) and Specialist Maths ever since graduating from high school and in 2020, I will again be offering tuition in the subjects of
Maths Methods (CAS) and
Specialist Maths.
CredentialsDuring VCE, I achieved a
raw study score of 50 and a Premier's Award in Maths Methods (CAS), a
raw study score of 46 in Specialist Maths, and First Class Honours in UMEP Mathematics, with a
mark of 99. I also received a number of awards, scholarships, and prizes during my time in high school, including:
- The Australian Student Prize (2014), awarded annually by the Department of Education to the top 500 year 12 students in Australia
- The Melbourne National Scholarship (2013), awarded annually by the University of Melbourne to year 12 students with tertiary entrance scores of 99.90 or above
- The University of Melbourne Extension Program Prize for Academic Excellence in Mathematics (2013), awarded annually by the University of Melbourne to the highest achieving student in Extension Program Mathematics
- Premier's VCE Award for Mathematical Methods (CAS) (2013), awarded annually by the Department of Education to the top 5 Mathematical Methods (CAS) students in the state of Victoria
- The Monash University Prize for Academic Excellence (2012), awarded annually by Monash University to the year 11 student at Melbourne Grammar School deemed most outstanding from an academic perspective
Experience- Have tutored year 11 and year 12 students in the subjects of Maths Methods (CAS) and Specialist Maths for more than 6 years
- Have had multiple students achieve raw study scores of 45+ and four students achieve ATARs of 99.90+
- Past students include Dux of Korowa Anglican Girls' School (2016), Dux of Melbourne Grammar School (2015), Dux of Melbourne High School (2015), and Dux of Essendon Keilor College (2015)
- Have lectured to over 100 students as the Subject Manager of Maths Methods (CAS) in the 2014 SWOT VCE Revision Program
- Have ran tutorials as a Subject Tutor for Maths Methods (CAS) in the 2015 and 2016 VCE Summer School (VCESS) run by the University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU)
- Have ran an eight-part lecture series to assist first year Doctor of Medicine students in preparation for their end of year examinations, covering topics including cardiology, respiratory medicine, nephrology, gastroenterology, neurology, rheumatology, microbiology, endocrinology, and reproductive medicine
PhilosophyMy philosophy is that maths should not so much be learned as discovered. Many of the theorems featured in VCE maths can in fact be proven using results and techniques introduced at the start of high school. As a tutor, my aim will be to build in students an understanding of maths from first principles, so that it becomes clear to them how VCE maths ties in with the mathematical knowledge gained in previous years. Only then will maths become, for students, less of a chore, and more of an adventure, an experience not to be dreaded, but to be savoured. Moreover, I will introduce to students a range of study techniques, which I myself employed, to ensure that they are well-positioned to achieve the highest score they can possibly achieve.
Details- Rates: $50 per hour for group sessions not exceeding 5 students.

Due to range of other commitments in 2020, I will be running only a restricted number of group sessions on Sundays at the University of Melbourne. If interested, please contact me via email at
