I'm suddenly feeling like I absolutely can't wait to meet you all, I'll be glancing at the clock all the way through work tomorrow :P  Wouldn't miss this for anything even though I'm socially awkward, my only concern is that I won't have long enough to talk to y'all hahaha.

While some people are way nicer than they  actually are, on the internet.
Shhhh, I wanted to keep this a secret :(

the pretentiousness of people
I suppose I haven't met most people IRL, but I semi-semi-know quite a few of you.  Just like I wouldn't call you personally pretentious from the little I've seen of you, A&B (not that I've met you in person), I would say the same with most of the others.  Sure, some people are dicks about their scores, but they're the exception rather than the rule and we're all out to squelch them.  This really is a forum full of amazing and often very humble and very genuine people - get into a sticky place, and you'll see that.  You meet anyone you don't like, and you can back out of the conversation and hit up one of the more awesome dudes.

But no, I'm going to be at least an hour late :(

So I was just reading through and this caught my eye on what a beautiful thought it was.
That's a really commendable thing to work towards :)
I think I'm going to make this a goal for myself as well - I'm always a little too cautious and hesitant. I'm going to try and keep this in mind throughout the year. Thank you for inspiring me.
I hope you guys have a lovely time at the AN meet up.

haha thanks thaaanyan <3

btw I never had the chance to thank you for your help in Lit last year...it's ironic that we ended up with the same score too hahah

good luck for everything next year! Hope to see you around some time :)

So after some lovely chats with some really lovely people, I'm so so excited to meet you guys. I'm sure everyone is really nice and I'm looking forward to spending the day with some fantastic like-minded people.

To anyone not sure about coming; I'm pretty sure no one actually hates anyone on this site; it's just a catch up with a bunch of us who are kind-of-already online friends so we can meet in real life and chill out. There's really no reason not to come! You only come away with some great memories and awesome new friends, hopefully no regrets. I'd sure love to meet you all, so please come down!

Anyway, really looking forward to meeting everyone, even though I'm awkward too :) Hope to have a great day!

Such a pity, makes coming less attractive because you guys are like my favourite people on AN :/

There are some people who act as though SS and Atars are the end and be all, brag a lot, don’t really have a life apart from study and try hard to be overly funny when in real life that are not like that, that’s pretentious (no offence pls). Take into account that I do have reasonable tolerance levels as my parents and school placed a high emphasis on academic results and I've grew up in Macau (a Chinese SAR). Maybe I also have high expectations of humankind, because some of my friends who got perfect Atars (amongst Olympiad short-lists) are some of the most modest, genuine and funny people I've met.

I started a chain reaction. As soon as the grapes leave, so do the loyal fans. The story about watching Star Wars is just a ploy to hide this basic fact.

If you're going to publicly berate people, at least be fully honest and say who you're talking about. How do you know the way people act on here is different to how they act in real life? You've judged them without actually meeting them. I've seldom, if ever, seen people brag on here and how do  you know what people do in their lives, let alone know all they do is study? If you don't think you would like the people at the meet up then just don't come, there's no need to berate others - many of which would be the most important members of this forum who assist other members the most.

As much as you don't like it, appleandbee is right, because this forum is centred around VCE and education, as 'ATAR'Notes. Hence, having a higher SS or ATAR actually does play a role in hierarchy on here, as much as you want to deny it, it's true and I feel the same way as appleandbee, getting a <90 ATAR brings shame on this forum, although it may be done so subtly... But we're all open to opinions, and this is mine, and I'm guessing also many's
