monash internal transfer question

I was thinking of transferring into Law/Science in my second year after getting good marks in my first year in Arts.

Is there any pre reqs required to transfer into science?

is it easier to go from Arts to Law/Arts or Arts to Law/Science

thanks guys!

Prereqs are the same as for VCE - make sure you satisfy those.

Why not do a Science and then transfer into Laws/Science? You'd save time.

If you don't have the prerequisites for just science you won't be able to get into it by just transferring at uni, you'd need to do certain electives in arts to qualify for the switch afaik.

i do have the vce pre reqs to do science, but I thought it'd be easier to get a higher mark with arts than science in my first year

am I misled in my reasoning?

do the pre reqs I satisfied in vce this year carry over to my second year if i want to transfer into science from arts?

or do i have to re do the pre reqs somehow?

thanks!

Definitely. The whole point of the prereqs is to just show you have a science aptitude, so they'll definitely accept them as tick boxes. They'll look at your WAM to see if you're prepared for the switch.

I think so. Arts is not necessarily easier to do well in - in fact, I reckon I'd fail in an arts degree.

It is easiest to do well in something you're interested in - something you have a passion for and want to do.

thankyou eulerfan!

to be honest I love pretty much everything haha

So I wouldn't mind doing Arts nor Science

But I think my english skills are better than my mathsy/sciency skills so I might go with Arts.... I'll probably research into both of them a bit more though and decide later

It's ultimately up to you, but keep this in mind: you'll have to extend your degree an extra semester or even a year if you do Arts with the intent of transferring to Science/Laws. If you did straight science, you could gain credit for all the subjects you've done and not have to do extra work. It's just like picking up an extra degree on the side that you've yet to start. You noted that you'd prefer to pick up Arts so that you can play to your strengths, which I suppose is a good degree. I guess it depends on what kind of job you see yourself having in the sense that you could do Arts/Laws and still get to where you want to end up.

It's also worth considering the possibility that you may be forced to stick it out with the single degree you choose. I don't want to sound like a douchebag, but the L.L.B is basically the hardest degree to transfer into. If you struggled to get the ATAR required for it, it might be just as hard to transfer when you're in uni itself. If this were to happen, you'd have to stay in Science or Arts and reconsider your aspirations. However, this is just a warning, and I'm sure you're more than capable of getting in if you put in the effort, and many people have done miraculously at uni while not initially getting into their 1st preference.

Have a nice day.

thanks for your help!

I have a back up and will probably do Arts/Science if I dont get into law straight away.
I just had some issues in yr 12 that impeded my ability to perform to my best, and I believe I can do it with a fresh start and clean slate in uni.

I think I'd major in psych in arts (which can be transferred to science I believe) and then pick up a second major (biology maybe) if I get into Law/Science.

good luck to us all :)

Why not just enroll in arts science then? And you can then drop one if you get into law? It's best to preference your ideal options instead of choosing courses to game the system.

I actually have that as my first preference but was trying to drop science for arts only

But you do make a good point as well , I think I'll stick with arts science and structure my first year more towards my strengths and cut down on any parts of science that might bring my average down

Are there any compulsory units in first year science like chem or maths I have to take ?
