Generally no one gets 20/20 because if they can find something worthy of a 'mistake', they'll take a mark off and boom, you're left with 19/20 :P

I did Chinese SLA. In the real exam, the maximum mark they give for essay section is 18/20( =20/20 ), and only about 5/500 people could get this top mark.  :) I bought the statement of marks and received 18/20 (2014) :o.

Getting 18/20 is not hard at all as long as you write what the examiners are looking for. The followings are what several examiners told me.

flawless logic + outstanding language ability + appropriate & unique ideas + show every detail of what the topic ask = full marks :)
(Of course there are more detailed tips)

If the examiners find there is an obvious logic or content mistake(eg. missing links when you discuss the reasons of why this why that), generally you can't receive any marks above 15/20.

In addition, failling to address the topic fully (eg. no specific audience or neglect the traps) can result in a mark below 14/20 straight away.

However It also depends on what the examiners you get.

Hope it helps! :)
