Science at Melbourne or Biomedical Science at Monash?

Hi,
This year I will commence my second year in the BA of Science at Melbourne, but I have been given an offer at Monash University to study the BA of Biomedical Science. As an aspiring medicine student, I was wondering on your thoughts of what I should do? If I go to Monash, I will be willing to begin from first year to be eligible for the 50 guaranteed spots in Monash's Med course, which are reserved for biomed students. I am just not sure if it is worth it considering the high competition.
1. Does anyone know what the competition is like and what WAM and GPA would be required to get those 50 spots?
2. Also, what are the major differences between the MD course and the MBBS?
3. Does anyone know if I can accept the Monash offer and withdraw from it at a later date without it effecting my Melbourne degree? Both Unis have said that it should be ok, but has anyone else experienced this?
Any information and advice is welcomed!
Thanks in advance.

The differences between MD and MBBS have been discussed numerous times on the forum, I'd suggest you search for these threads so we can spare people the effort of repeating information :)

1. Competition is extremely high as you'd expect for any postgraduate medicine course. Can't put a figure on that WAM, but you'd be wanting 80+
2. On the forums
3. Are you speaking about if you get one of the 50 spots and then get an offer for the melb MD, whether you can chose the melb MD? This is something I'd clarify with Melbourne and GEMSAS.
