Has anyone done Journey to the interior for their related text? Is it good and does anyone have any notes on it?

Hey AN community,
Two questions:
1. When adapting an essay to the question, how would we go about doing this? Cause when I was doing the discovery one, I found it quite difficult to really nail the question (i.e. just threw the words emotional and intellectual whenever I could, especially in my linking after each paragraph).
2. Should the main/sub thesis be entirely about the question? Or just what we're about to talk about in each body paragraph in regards to certain concepts that relate to the question somewhat?

If it helps for the morning:

1. Throwing the buzzwords in definitely helps! Besides this be sure that your Thesis does a good job of linking to the question, and links your themes to the question, that's where the battle is won so to speak ;)
2. A little from both those categories! It should be like, "Yo, so here is my idea, this is how it relates to the question and the module, this is my evidence (texts), and this is how I'm going to break up discussing it." So yes, it should be about the question, and yes, it should set up your paragraphs :)

hi send help idk how to thesis for mod c people and politics brave new world
i want to define politics but smartly can someone help hahah  :'(

My favourite description of politics:

Politics is the art of achieving and maintaining organised control over a populace.

Theres a lot to pick apart there; gaining power, maintaining power, control, manipulation, conformity; lots of themes you can draw out. I hope it can jog some ideas for tomorrow, good luck! :)

Two solid paragraphs is way better than three poor ones; quality over quantity, can definitely still score well! :)

It's too difficult to quantify marks as being "lost" - but I honestly can't guarantee that you'd lose any at all. Attacking the words in the question is the most important aspect of it all! :)

Hi Elyse,

I just started year 12. With regards to The English Paper 1, section 2: Imaginative Writing- I just wanted to know what limitations are there with regard to form. What I mean is, I usually revert to narratives, when the stimulus is general. Are there any other text types/ forms that you would suggest. Eg. a reflection or diary entry or even anything else? 'Caus to be honest, I haven't really done anything but narratives before.

Thanks,
Samuel

not Elyse haha, but I have my opinions on this that I thought i'd share :) I had two creatives memorised since the beginning of the year which I planned to use, the choice between which depended upon what the stimulus was. One of my creatives was a 3rd person narrative, and the other was a 1st person reflection. The reflection, pretty much without fail (especially within the HSC on Wednesday!), would always fit with the stimulus better than the 3rd person narrative, and was much easier to adapt to a tricky stimulus. I found it a lot easier to adapt a character driven narrative than a plot driven one. I also found it a lot easier with a reflection to demonstrate more varied experiences of discovery, as it was a lot easier to include and expand upon emotional, personal and spiritual discoveries, while also working fine for physical discoveries.
So yeah! I'd definitely consider a personal reflection or a diary entry for your creative! Though narratives, if that is what you are most comfortable still work perfectly fine :) Just my experience was reflection was easier.

Either way, I'm sure you're going to absolutely smash it! Good luck with year 12!

Hey Samuel, welcome to the forums! Since sudodds has already given a fricken fantastic reply, I'll just chime and say that you can also consider doing a speech. We have a exemplar speech (Elyse's HSC creative) in the Notes section of ATAR Notes if you want to check it out  :) :)

Sorry I'm late to the party! Suddods and Sarah are both 100% spot on.
I will add, I intended to write a short story, but I got in a rut and couldn't improve my marks. So I converted the story line to a speech. That's when my marks started to elevate again! So, it's so so so good that you're considering the forms already, but keep in mind throughout the year that it may change! :) Always keep your options open. So glad to have you on the forums, drop by any time :)

Hi!

Is it possible for us to read your creative writing speech? I'm not exactly sure how you could use a speech form and include conflict and stuff... We need to include some certain conflict right?

Jamon's linked the speech above :)

Conflict is important for any narrative, but don't box that into just being some kind of confrontation. Conflict is any kind of tension, anything that gives the narrative meat, something for the characters or readers to think about, and any kind of compelling use of plot. This carries over into speeches well a lot of the time! I surprised myself to be honest, I thought a speech would be tricky but it ended up pretty ok!
