nope. it doesn't come up :(

I've seen it a few places but that was the only name-related thing it came up with.

The name should be on the lecture slides when they are uploaded in a few days...

Hello

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to study for Module B. I know you have to know your text super well but in terms of notes, should it be structured in terms of form or values? The past questions have been so diverse, some focusing on form and some focusing on values .-.

thank you :)

Hello

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to study for Module B. I know you have to know your text super well but in terms of notes, should it be structured in terms of form or values? The past questions have been so diverse, some focusing on form and some focusing on values .-.

thank you :)

I suggest the context, values and your major quotes and techniques are the things you want to be mastering and then organising your quotes and techniques into themes that overarch your texts. Something I normally do to help memorise these things would be to type up all the useful quotes with their respective techniques and organise them into tables under the themes they correspond to. This gives me a general overview of what my texts say about certain things, so now I know what quotes I would use and how to analyse them, and gives me an idea of how I would structure my essays (as it's a good idea to structure your essay around themes).
As an optional step, I also like to create a separate document where I blank out some of the important information. I would then print everything out and have the full version and the blank version side by side and begin filling out the blank version multiple times. This is a really quick and easy tool that helps me memorise quotes, techniques etc. I did this for my Mod A (Metropolis and 1984) if you want an example (here)

As for tackling the diverse range of questions: Make a list of the common questions and some left field questions that you can find in past papers or online. Then, I suggest making essay plans for these questions. After consolidating everything there is to know about these texts, then applying it to many questions, you prepare yourself for whatever question they throw at you. (and making plans is a lot faster than writing full essays) Here is my essay plan template if you'd like to try this :)

Hope this helps!

Hey, I am starting a framework for my AOS discovery essay to have it finalised for trials in about 4 weeks - I want to structure it based on rubric dotpoints and am doing the Motorcycle diaries as my prescribed text. I am having trouble structuring this howeve as I don't know which rubric points to adress together and can't come up with two different arguments using them. Does anyone have suggestions?

Hey!
I would select a few statements out of the discovery rubric such as "discoveries can be confronting and provocative" for example and develop concepts for these statements that can be adapted to different rubric statements. Once you have these concepts you should find quotes/techniques and their analysis and fit them under your different concepts (try and find some that can be adapted and changed between concepts.
Hope this helps!

Helloo, I know this is a bit late but I just started to write my discovery essay. I'm not really sure how to structure it because I know I can't do theme paragraphs like i did with the modules.
How did you map out your essay? Could I do Par1 on prescribed and Par 2 on related and Par3 analysing both?

I personally had this kind of structure, but your suggestion works too:
BP1: Prescribed text, Discovery aspect 1
BP2: Related text, Discovery aspect 1
BP3: Prescribed text, Discovery aspect 2
BP4: Related text, Discovery aspect 2

Thank you for your reply! Did you use the same 2 aspects of discovery to fit all the essay questions or did you prepare more?

I found a way to fit the same 2 aspects to all essay questions but that's because I was rushed for time. Ideally, you'd prepare more or go with a 3  integrated paragraph approach on the process of discovery like Emily advocates for though.

Thanks heaps :))

great, definitely good. very clear discovery. I guess you can relate the process of discovery as he gains more clues to his contrived life and eventually discovers that the real world is just the same as his contrived world as well as the mindset of the producer in wanting to keep the protagonist from his discovery.  haven't watched it in two years but that should hopefully inspire you.
But it was a prescribed text back in 2014 for standard module B not that it should matter.

I attended the English Advanced Lecture today (Which was great btw!!) and wanted some clarification on a method the lecturer proposed for integrated essays. (Mod A: I'm studying John Donne's poetry and the play W;t)

Essentially, it was to use a quote from text 1, then text 2, then text 2 again, then text 1. I was wondering, considering John Donne wrote his stuff waaaayyy before W;t, I felt it made more sense to do quote from text 1, text 2, text 1, text 2 to show how the modern play appropriated the old poems.

Is it best to do T1 T2 T2 T1 instead?

Thanks!!

Hello! I hope you enjoyed Emily's lecture! ;D

What Emily is proposing there isn't going to be a hard and fast rule. Like, she is showing you a method for integrated essays. It isn't the method.

T1 T2 T2 T1 could work for your stuff:

Blah blah blah as proposed by John Donne. Indeed, this is extrapolated on in W;t where ________. This is enhanced by blah blah blah more stuff from W;t, in stark contrast with Donne's original work where blah blah blah.

Or, you could roll with something that feels more natural to you. There is always more than one way to get your analysis done in English (though Emily's methods clearly work pretty freakin well ;))

Hope this helps! ;D
