Hi All,
Is there any tips for paper one english advanced coming up
such as how to memorise an essay and creative writing effectively and adapting it on the day, how to answer short discovery questions
ALSO im unsure of paper 2 section 2 im doing hamlet just to confirm am i doing a essay only on hamlet. please explain what do you do on section 2 paper 2
Thank you everyone

Hello! Here is a guide on unseen texts, here is a guide on creative writing, and here is a guide on memorising essays! Hit you with a trifecta ;D

On Paper 2 Section 2 (Module B), if your text is Hamlet then yep, you will write an essay on Hamlet in response to a question specifically about your text (Hamlet) ;D

Hello everyone,

Just wondering if it is ok to just have two body paragraphs in my HSC/trial essays?
I feel as though I'm going to run out of time and not be able to form my arguments properly if I do three BP's, but will doing two cause me to lose marks?

Thanks,
Jada :)

Hi Jada! It is absolutely quality over quantity, two fantastically written paragraphs will score far better than three mediocre ones. Can you get the required detail for full marks in two paragraphs? If they are really really good, then I think you can! Three is ideal imo, but you are better off making two really good ones if you feel that three will push you for time :)

Hey guys;

What dramatic device can i use for this quote?

“hear the last of our sea sorrow”

I used sibilance at first; but then realised that was a literary technique. I was thinking iambic pentameter? but wanted something more specific?

Thanks so much!

Hey there! Personally I think it just comes down to memorising your quotes, then doing a heap of practice. I mean it is also important to understand the requirements on each module (if you click here and go to the middle of the list you'll see some handy guides!), but beyond that it is just practicing applying your quotes to questions, and getting feedback! ;D

Feedback is super important to know how you are travelling - Even if it is just paragraphs, get feedback whenever you can :)

Honestly, just memorise a bank of versatile quotes and if you know your texts well enough, the analysis should flow upon recollection. This has worked really well for me. Every essay question demands differing levels of nuance in the response,  so memorising a single essay - particularly if you only have a week - may narrow your ability to actually answer the question. I understand memorising essays could work if you had done it months in advance, but if you only have a week till trials, you won't really have time to refine your exam technique after (memorising essays verbatim is super time consuming). Thus I reckon your time would be much better spent developing a solid well rounded knowledge of your texts so that you can tackle any question. For creative, I would advise memorising though, only because it's notoriously difficult to make one up on the spot lol - but that'll take like an hour tops to do. Hope this helps! :) Good luck in your trials Xx

Is it ok to have a technique without a quote? And how many techniques should I aim for per essay?
I noticed Jamon said 15-20 quotes....but I have a few examples where I have used a technique without a specific quote.....e.g "This rock wall serves as an extended metaphor throughout" etc.......is this ok to do? And does it count as a quote more or less?  :o :o
Thanks!

Hey!
If there's no quote then I'd assume you got it from a picture or a scene in a movie?
In that case then yes. If you're analysing a picture for an RT, then you won't have any quotes now will you.
Also if you were going to look at things like structure, rhyming accompanied throughout a whole piece (say a poem) then you'd talk about that as a technique but not a quote.
So the way i see it...Quotes --> Techniques (You have a quote then you pull a technique out of it analyse it). But techniques aren't necessarily synonymous with quotes.
Hope this helps!

Lol I'm not exaggerating - it is so much easier than memorising essays. Honestly I think just having really short paragraphs (mine are all basically 90-170 each) helps tbh lol

Luckily for me, I have got my english papers split between two days, but if you think about at least it will be out of the way. Realistically, you won't be able to much more preparation the night of that you haven't done already before hand. Sorry if this isn't exactly what you want to here, aha. All I can do is wish you luck!!
