Helloo,
Does anyone have some good quotes from the T.S.Eliot poem 'Preludes' that relates to the theme of uncertainty?? I've only really found 1 quote so far and i need about 2 more so if anyone has any suggestions that would be much appreciated!

Hmmm maybe! That wasn't a theme I studied too closely last year (not to say it's not a great one!), so take these suggestions with a grain of salt, but maybe one of these quotes could work?

- And you heard the sparrows in the gutters,/ You had such a vision of the street/ As the street hardly understands; (Lines 30-32)
- The conscience of a blackened street/ Impatient to assume the world (Lines 44-45)
- I am moved by fancies that are curled/ Around these images, and cling:/ The notion of some infinitely gentle/ Infinitely suffering thing. (Lines 46-49, also potentially the most beautiful line of poetry eva)

Again, I don't know if these are the best quotes to use, but just the first that sprang to mind :)

Got back my prelim for short answer and got 9/15 :( So saddened, and I want a band 6 in hsc

Do you have advice for practising for the paper 1 (specifically the 3 and 5 mark ones)? Because I got the full 2 marker questions but failed real bad with the 3 and 5 mark ones :/

It was based on 'belonging'

Thank you :)

Don't be saddened! I understand it doesn't meet expectation, but plenty of time to improve - Short answers are tough!

Have you read your feedback - What were the comments you received? A common issue with those questions is writing too little/too much - A 3 marker should be a nice solid paragraph, a 5 marker should be an extended response. You might need more techniques/analysis, or to answer the question more directly. It could be an issue of exam technique - Time management or managing stress. Knowing exactly what you need to do is the first step - Then it's about practicing and trying to address those issues!!

We'll be doing something cool for you guys to help you practice your short answer responses before Trials - Stay tuned :)

Hey! In 2016, the difference was marginal. I'd say a difference of about 1/50 (since each unit is out of 50) at most - They seem to scale very similarly :P

The average mark for EX1 is slightly higher, however :)

Damn... I wonder why it works out that way considering the work load is really much larger for EX1 :(

Thanks for the reply though!

It's interesting isn't it! It just means that students in EX1 are performing (on average) just as well in other subjects as students who take Advanced only. That is, there is no notable difference in the 'academic quality' of EX1 cohort versus Advanced cohort - Interesting, given that most other Extension subjects see a substantial difference!

Another fact - 70% of EX1/EX2 students are female! This is versus about 40% of MX1/MX2 students that are female - A clear disparity there! :)

Ask (actually, demand) for them then! You have a right to know exactly what you need to do to improve - Maybe organise a chat with your teacher to go through it?

Hey Guys,

Currently, in class we are studying Module B (T.S Eliot's poetry), and I am really stuck on how to address an unseen question this Wednesday, especially considering that we have only studied two poems: Preludes and Prufrock. The practice question we've been set is:

"Through its portrayal of human experience, Eliot's poetry reinforces the value of the individual."

Any tips on how to address this?

Thank you so so much,

Mary x

Hey!
I did the HSC last year (2017) and my 10 units were English Advanced, English Extension 1, English Extension 2, Legal Studies, Maths and Studies of Religion 2. I achieved my ATAR aim of over 90!

I loved tutoring and running essay writing workshops (privately and at InFlow Education) so much that I decided to study a Bachelor of Secondary Education, majoring in English and minoring in Maths!

If you're thinking about tutoring, let me know x

I was also wondering what a textual feature is
