If anyone has studied the speeches 'Spotty-Handed Villainesses' by Margaret Atwood and the Redfern Speech by Paul Keating, and has examples of ethos, pathos and logos present in them, could you help me out!
I want to choose the best examples for my speech so I can maximise my marks.
Thanks!

Hey!
Just wondering if there's any chance you can help me out? I am attempting to write a module A essay on Pride and Prejudice and Letters to Alice regarding how the texts explore the idea of being true to oneself in their different contexts. I am struggling with how to structure the essay with specific points to answer the question concisely. If you have any thoughts that would be amazing!

Thanks so much :)

I was just wondering what do stylistic elements include/ refer to?
I was also wondering what a textual feature is

Hey! Stylistic elements are things that texts of a particular style normally do in terms of how they are constructed. So for example, texts reflective of romanticism normally have quite elaborate language, emphasise the power of nature  To name just a couple :)

A textual feature is a feature of a text - Techniques, form, you could even extend it to context :)

Hey Lara! Welcome to the forums! ;D

I didn't study these texts specifically, but a few things that might be worth reading:

- This guide on writing and structuring comparative Module A essays
- An exemplar essay for these texts, written by our own sudodds - It could give you some ideas on structure ;D
- A 20/20 CSSA exemplar with a breakdown of what works well in the essay, written by yours truly :)

Speaking broadly, this question sounds like it is about identity - Perhaps explore how identity can be challenged, how it is invigorated, how it can be a damaging concept vs a beneficial concept - If you broaden the question to something like 'identity,' it can be a little easier to discuss :)

Hope the forums will be helpful for you throughout the year! ;D

Hi! I believe textual integrity is the ability of all the text's ideas and themes to unify together to create an image or a meaning. An example would be TS Eliot's poems that have all the avant-garde imagery and synecdoche just to convey his belief that life is meaningless and hell. This shows textual integrity as they all form one idea.
With your second question about personal views and essays, I would structure the essay using:
-Intro (as usual)
-Theme 1
-Theme 2
-Theme 3 make sure to link somewhat link each theme to a common idea maybe?
-Conclusion

Avoid using personal pronouns such as "I" or "us" in you essays.
To relate the themes to yourself or everyday life, try to phrase them in a way that it refers to people as a whole.
For example,"evaluate complicated relationships in our everyday lives".
-Don't use "We all experience the sophistication of human connection."
-Phrase it as, "Human connection is an essential aspect of human nature that often lead to sophisticated relationships."
Try to refer to yourself as a whole sort of.
Hope this helps :)

Thank you! That definitely was helpful :)

Just a few more questions regarding Module B.
What's the best way to write study notes?
How can you incorporate the idea of textual integrity into an essay, and how often should it be mentioned?

Hey Lara :) I studied this module last year. With a question like that, I'd be wanting to look at 3 thematic concerns reflected in both texts, which explores the issue of conformity vs. individuality (which is extremely prevalent throughout both texts so lucky!). In my opinions, some good, universal themes to focus on are:

- The role of class/status
- The role of women
- The role of rebellion

Through this, you want to be looking at the similarities and differences between the two contexts and the way in which these themes are represented, but ALSO the way in which their discussions can enhance one another/make one easier to appreciate or understand. For example Weldon uses contextual detail and statistics to clarify Austen's characters’ motives, reinforcing the struggles of the past that today (after first, second and third wave feminism) are no longer an issue, thus would be harder for contemporary individuals to understand. Through “linking the past of that society with its future,” and bridging the generational gap between two contexts, Weldon instils empathy within her contemporary audience, and substantiates Austen’s writings as a subversive text :)

Hope this helps,

Susie

Hey! For study notes, I reckon just big tables with quotes/techniques/context/explanations, all your evidence for an essay, in one spot grouped by argument/theme :)

Textual integrity can be linked to pretty much anything, because it relates directly to how well the composer accomplishes their aim of communicating to their audience, how well they bring everything together to achieve their purpose. So, discuss how well the composer achieves textual integrity in the communication of their key ideas.

Personally, I rarely used the direct words "textual integrity" - But the ideas surrounding it (composer achieving goals) should be the basis of a Module B essay, even if the term isn't used :)

Oh okay. What would generic conventions fit under?
