Hi! :) With creative pieces, I want to be far from cliche but in all honesty, I haven't had any experiences worth writing or exaggerating. Do you have any tips for coming up with a good creative piece?

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has any really good synonyms for discovery!!

http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/discover

Some of those are nice. It's more how you phrase the word. You want to qualify the type of discovery, eg provocative, refreshing etc. That's more important

Hi! I am taking all four units of english as well ahaha! I guess my question is that I feel like I'm working my english-es non-stop but I still feel like I am making little to no progress. So my question is does it all come together in the end because i feel a bit like I'm moving in slow motion right now.
Thankyou!

A cliche is only a cliche is you make it one. There is nothing such as a absolute cliche. It's all down to the skill of the reader. There are stories that may be less common but you can make them cliche as well.

The trick is to DIFFERENTIATE your writing from your peers and INTEGRATE idiosyncratic details which nobody else decides to include. Take an idea, write it out then fix it up. Any ideas can get you 15/15, it's all down to how you express yourself.

Take a look at the creatives on the notes page :) Good ones there

Hi! What i find that works for me is picking something that is totally crazy and can be a bit silly and no matter the topic i weave it into my piece. For example one of my characters is a dragon and i put him in every piece so that it is a bit exciting and different! Hope this helps!

Well if you're doing 4 units of English you must be doing something right :P Congrats for making it this far.

What do you mean by moving a bit slow? Do you feel that your draft essays just aren't of quality? or you feel your understanding of english is just not up to standard?

Well, if you put in the work it'll ALL come together in the end. All packaged nicely. Also known as your ATAR :)

You should aim to set yourself goals every day when doing english. Like maybe finish editing this paragraph or fix up my X essay etc. If you can tick one off each day then you know you're accomplishing something

I'm sorry for the rather simplistic and to most english teachers, annoying question, but why do we study English at school?

I do not wish to start an argument, but rather gain insight into the reasoning behind the compulsory subject.

Thanks

I guess it's because we're in Australia and we're expected to study it to some degree. It's the skills it teaches you that carry throughout your life.

What was the question that your teacher assigned you? I haven't done this topic for my module, but, i do recommend checking out past paper questions  :)

Hi I was wondering if I could have help to effective describe a certain perspective.
I am having trouble articulating a proper perspective. I keep getting it confused with issues.  :-[

A perspective is a view on an issue!

I just want to add that there are many perspectives you can address....e.g. Feminist Perspective

Hi! When I receive feedback for my essays that I've handed in at school, I'm always losing some marks for "specificity" and the quality of my thesis statements. How can I fix this to receive better marks?

Thanks!  :D

Hey Lara! Welcome to the forums! ;D

Strong Thesis statements are a really hard thing to get the hang of. Your best bet is to practice writing them, over and over, and getting feedback each time to continue to hone and perfect them! ;D we actually have a place you can do that for the AoS here!!

Other than that, for the Modules, it is vital to have an understanding of those Modules. You can find our Module essay guides linked towards the middle of this resource list, I'd suggest giving those a read too!! ;D

Let us know if we can help in any other way! I hope the site is useful for you! ;D
