hey guys
This is the stupidest post ever but could someone post a link to where I could find the rubric for all the modules? I've tried going on BOSTES or NESA but I don't think I'm looking at the right thing. Thank you!

Here's an easy link for you! :)

"But this rough magic/ I here abjure" "I'll break my staff,/ Bury it certain fathoms in the earth,/ And deeper than did ever plummet sound/ I'll drown my book." This is what prospero says when he give up his magic in the tempest, can someone please help with techniques and analysis! All I've got is that its said in soliloquy

Some things that stick out to me:
-First person
-Future tense: I will
-Imagery of destruction

Using a combination of these could make an excellent hybridised analysis :)

Hello all,

For essays, do you think its best to write integrated paragraphs for all paragraphs in every Module or would you alternate?

Thank you in advance!

Hey Pidiare!

You can write paragraphs that are not textually integrated, but they will be thematically integrated. This is still important and possible for you to achieve the best marks. If you think that textual integration is achievable for you then I'd go with that. The worst case scenario is you write about a text per paragraph, and then fail to thematically connect. You will still be able to get marks, but not as many as if you had integrated. For me, thematically integrating was the next step, and then I moved to textually integrating. I know some people will say full textual integration is the only way but I disagree. However, I do 100% acknowledge that the better essays I've read have all been integrated! :)

HII!!!

I need help!!

So basically, we got this essay question for module c for an assessment (prescribed text is W.H Auden's poems) and i just can't seem to wrap my head aorund it!! We haven't done any module c essay writing in class (so I'm checking out the ATAR notes thread on that, super helpful) but I'm having issues deconstructing the question.

the question is " Evaluate the representation of individual, shared, or competing political perspectives within texts. Make close reference to at least TWO of W.H Auden's poems as studied in class" (no related text needed)

I have all my analysis down pat, but I can't understand what the question is asking me. I know it's something to do with the rubric but ugh!! Like, i don't know what arguments to come up with, how to structure my paragraphs in my essays etc. And the word "evaluate" makes no sense to me.

I would appreciate ANY help at all for my stupid brain to try and understand this question urgently!! Thank you so much in advance!

Hello,
I have a question about Module A (my texts are Mrs Dalloway and The Hours).
I'm not sure how to answer the question
"How does comparison of texts help us gain insight into contexts and values?"

Right now I only know how to answer questions about intertextual connects help us understand themes, not the how texts help us understand their contexts. This question really stumps me because I'd imagine I wouldnt be able to use the structure I've used before for Mod A, which is

A: Mrs Dalloway point 1 + why Woolf makes specific choices (i.e. how it has been influenced by context)
B: Similarities and differences to The Hours, and why this comes about (i.e. differences in context)

A: Mrs Dalloway point 2 + why Woolf makes specific choices (i.e. how it has been influenced by context)
B: Similarities and differences to The Hours, and why this comes about (i.e. differences in context)

Any advice would be appreciated,
Thank you!

Hey guys
Im doing brave new world for Mod C and was wondering if you  are allowed to  help me out in cutting down my 2 core body paragraphs please? they are both more than 300 words each and my teacher isnt allowed to mark our essays more than once and her comments have made my core bodies legit near 350 words and idk how/what to cut. I'm not sure if you guys are allowed to help in trimming it down and was wondering if you can help in that if i post my essay up?

Thanks sooo much :)))

Hey guys!!
Firstly thanks so much for putting on the lectures the past week!
We only just started module B at the end of last time but haven't even gone through any of the speeches yet! Problem: our trial exam is in 2 weeks! The only speeches we are being tested on are Atwood and Keating, but even then I don't know what I am relating analysis to, or if I am linking the speeches at all? We have been told to write an essay but I just don't know where to start!

Thanks :)

Hey justwannawish :)

1. I did Richard! Well, transient means only lasting for not a long time. So in terms of the nature of power, I'll throw some ideas out here: Perhaps power is only transient because the ideal of power is more desirable than the pressures of maintaining power. Or, perhaps power is transient because people are so caught up in the chase that they haven't carefully considered maintaining it. However, looking at your response, I think your definitely on point with your argument. I'm thinking that's a really strong and impressive argument - I genuinely truly believe you should follow this through. I especially am impressed with the first one, but also impressed with the second one.

2. I think it's more to do with the second part of what you've suggested, although it is definitely open to interpretation! So, I interpret it as individual recognition of the character and identity. So if someone is in pursuit of individual recognition, they want the acclaim, they want the "fame." They want to be individually recognised by others. With the first part of your suggestion about the individual's ability to control...I'm not making the link but that just could be because you haven't proved it to me yet. So I'm not saying it's a weak point, but I'd like to know more!
Thank you so much for your reply and I'm sorry I replied so late.

I think I was talking about how Richard establishes that he is doing things for his own ambition. And by accepting that he is like the vice and the villain, he shapes his own identity as an anti-hero, recognising his own power and agency. Maybe I'm totally off the mark haha

Also, I read your post on memorising essays and was wondering how to write a generic essay for module C. I do people and politics :)

Hello! If anyone did the CSSA paper last year or any previous years (in particular Mod B Speeches), was any speech nominated?

Hey,
In terms of Brave New World and my related V for Vendetta, how could I approach the question that
"All representations are acts of manipulation"?

Thanks.

Hey! Basically what this question is saying is, "The composer has written this text to persuade you of something. To manipulate your opinion." Your job will be to examine how techniques are used to communicate ideas to the audience and manipulate their view of the world - For those texts you'd be looking at things like the nature of humanity, urbanisation, oppression, rebellion, etc ;D

Hey! So I interpret this question as asking you to do this: Texts have political agendas, right. Not like, Labor or Liberal, but opinions on how things should run and how powerful individuals should behave. These opinions will be represented in your texts with techniques - Rhetorical, filmic, literary, etc. How effectively do the techniques communicate ideas on politics?

Module C is about representation - The question is asking you to evaluate how well the composers communicate their political ideas to the audience. So I'd be doing one political idea per paragraph, and the focus is: "Yep, the composer wants to say this, and they use techniques to do it in an effective/ineffective way."

This is my interpretation - Does it help a little? :)

Welcome to the forums!! ;D

I reckon you'll be able to use your structure - The difference is subtle. So we have the same theme explored in two different texts - But the way it is explored is ultimately different. Different techniques used, different perspective portrayed in a different way on the same theme. This difference is because of context. For example, a representation of terrorism in a text is done completely differently now versus pre 2001 - Because of the difference in context.

So, the way a theme is explored becomes representative of its context. So, by exploring differences in how texts explore the same themes, we can gain an insight into how their contexts differ! Does this make sense? :)

Hey! Sure thing - Post it in the Advanced marking thread, we can highlight some stuff we'd consider as less important for you and give you some general pointers. Be warned we've got a huge backlog on marking due to lectures right now though :P

Hey kdurante! I spoke to you on Snapchat ;) I dug up this technique table for Atwood that could be helpful!! As I mentioned last night, focus on the ideas and themes that each composer wants to convey, and how effectively they use techniques to do this ;D

Hello! For Module B Speeches, I am struggling to find values/themes for Sir William Deane's It's Winter at Home.
I'm writing notes based on values (so I can more easily link the speeches), however I cannot find any other values that Deane presents in his speech other than unity.
Can someone please help me out with this speech?
