Hey guys 😃
When an essay question asks for at least one related text,  particularly for paper 1 would you recommend using one or two?

Hey! Definitely one, use the one you've prepared and do a really good job of it

Hey there!

Does anyone have any resources for a listening task on T.S Eliot's poetry? I just don't know where to find audio clips other than on youtube. Has anyone got any ideas for preparing for listening tasks in general?

Thank you!!!

HELP! I need a related text for Mod C I am doing King Henry IV and all the related texts recommended by teachers suck. I'm thinking of using JFK's 1961 inaugural address but wondering if there's something better.

Hello!!

I have my Paper 1 Trial tomorrow and I've been doing well in english this year but for some reason I'm struggling to try and prepare for this.

Im so scared that the question is going to be some obscure part of the rubric that I won't have any quotes or analysis for and be completely doomed!! How can i best prepare an essay or a range of quotes an techniques that are manageable to memorise but also allow me to cover the whole rubric??

Anything will help, and i will really appreciate any response!!

HSC 2017 ATAR 97.25 English Advanced (92)- Modern History (89) - Business Studies (93) - Biology (96) - English Extension 1 (47/50) - English Extension 2

I found that 'Requiem for the croppies' by Seamus Heaney was a decent poem, easy to understand and very short.

I was hoping to get some help in identifying an attitude in the film my sisters' keeper and pinpointing it. I am aiming to focus on the protagonist's loss of identity in that she was born as a means to save her illl sister

Hey! Sorry this got missed before your Trial, I really hope it went well!

For the future, Elyse wrote a guide that might be helpful for you! Your best bet is to memorise effective quotes/techniques, ones that have more than one single technique and ones that can be applied to different parts of the rubric in different ways. Be efficient, with lots to memorise that's essential ;D

Sounds good! An attitude is a feeling of the composer towards a subject matter they are addressing, in this case, identity. What do you think the composer of that film is showing about how they view/feel about identity? :)

Hey guys, thanks for all your help so far your replies have been great!
I just sat my Paper 1 trial exam yesterday and I'm not happy with how I went in it. I mistakenly left my essay until last, which I'm sure is a viable strategy for many people but I lost a lot of confidence whilst writing the creative writing (my weakest section) and I was just struggling to formulate cohesive sentences by the time I got to the essay. I remembered all of my quotes and techniques, I just really struggled to formulate them into a strong essay.
Essays are usually my strongest section and I'm usually good under pressure so I had no idea how to rebuild my confidence and refocus once I lost it.
I've tried to just forget about it and focus on my final prep for paper 2 which is on Monday but I'm quite nervous about it.
Do you have any tips or strategies for building your confidence in an exam and not letting prior performance impact your motivation and mentality for the remaining exams?

Hey, welcome to the forums! ;D I never studied King Lear so I can't help there (someone else might be able?), but a good idea for a Related Text on a new society might be a science fiction text, something that looks at a futuristic (even if it is set in the present) world compared to our own? A few good ones:

- V for Vendetta
- Brave New World
- 1984

Not sure of the requirements of the module so check with your teacher ;D

Hey Graceful! Bummer about Paper 1, but no stress! Focus on a strong turnaround for Paper 2! ;D

I wrote this guide on remaining calm and confident in exams, it could be worth a read! I think it is important to put things in perspective - While important these Trial Exams are definitely not the be all and end all of your HSC marks. Things happen, people stuff up, you almost always do waayyyy better in the HSC. My partners score in English jumped like twenty points between her Trial and her HSC, for example. Most of my marks jumped anywhere from 5 to 15 points - No reason to worry!

With that in mind, if you have a tough exam, take a few hours off from study that afternoon, just rest and relax. Then come back refreshed with the mindset, "Yep, that wasn't ideal, but I can work hard now to make up for it!" Let it drive you, kind of like going for a run the morning after smashing down a bucket of KFC (I've never done this... promise...)

Is it possible to write about 3 texts in one paragraph for the AOS essay?
I'm not sure how i would otherwise break it up whilst staying integrated to encompass all my ideas.
My current structure has 3 ideas and all 3 texts fit into those so if they only ask for 1 text its fine but if they ask for 2 I don't know how I'd structure that :/
