Hey! Does anyone have any tips for studying for trials? Like, would it be the same study routine for half yearlies? I know that past papers are a great method, but I just wanted to know if anyone had anything to add. It's because our trials are at the end of this term and I wanted to get a headstart in studying.
Thanks  :)

The only differences between the trial and half yearly exam blocks are:
1. You may or may not have it after holidays, which gives you a stuvac (study vacation)
2. Your notes should actually be done (excluding content not examinable for trials)
3. Because the same things get asked in trials for most schools, you have more resources available this time round
4. There's more content to stuff in your head

Everything else is honestly the same

Someone else will write a comprehensive answer to your query, but I'll simply impose this question back at you.

Why wouldn't you be able to?

I can't tell you or can't get a band 6, but the best you can do is try =)

hey :) There is no reason why you can't get a band 6. Is getting a band 6 notoriously hard in Standard? Unfortunately yes. However it's important to understand why. One of the big reasons is that in Paper 1 you are marked against Advanced students, who aren't naturally more gifted at English, however may have been given more sophisticated texts to study, or resources that are considered "more advanced." Thus, going into the exam a lot of Standard students are naturally at a disadvantage. However, now that you know this, you can think more strategically :) In order to do well you will need to be writing (particularly in Paper 1) at the level of an Advanced English student - which is more than achievable with a bit of hard work :) Do practice papers, go beyond the resources you get in class (ie do your own research), work about perfecting your expression and you'll definitely have a shot at cracking 90+ :)

I am a very practical learner so what advice would you give me when I am studying for the Trials + HSC? (Most of my subjects are in the HSIE department!)
The end may justify the means as long as there is something that justifies the end.
