I know that other uni's offer students discounted/free software. Like free office 365 for each year of studies, $30 office professional plus, $30 full win 10 pro, or the Adobe creative cloud suite for $13 per year etc. etc.

Do unimelb students get this?

(the above figures are what holmesglen offers their students by the way)

Free Office at portal.office.com
Endnote X7 also free, as is Refworks.
Matlab is free.
Windows and other programming tools free.
Lucidcharts free.

There is other free software but it's  quite specific.

Where do you go to get such software? (I'm looking at windows specifically)

Ok guys, I think I found the place where unimelb students can get the discounted software!

See here: https://unimelb.onthehub.com/WebStore/ProductsByMajorVersionList.aspx?cmi_mnuMain=a898347d-bc38-dd11-abb7-0030485a6b08

Students only get windows 10 education free (which requires that you already have win 10 home/pro installed - so completely pointless for 99% of people), and some other random software

Staff of unimelb on the other hand get $30 Windows (10 education, 8.1 pro and 7pro), $30 office professional plus (2016,2013,2010),  the adobe creative cloud suite for $13 per year, as well as some other random software.

If you're just looking for the basic Word/Ppt/Excel etc. products then you can use this: https://products.office.com/en-AU/student. That doesn't cover some of the other stuff others have mentioned, but I remember bookmarking this because it worked fine for me :)

I will reply in full later but this isn't exactly accurate.

MATLAB: https://github.com/resbaz/lessons/blob/master/matlab/unimelb_matlab_install.md

Students get Windows 10 education edition for free, regardless of what they already have installed. https://unimelb.onthehub.com/WebStore/OfferingDetails.aspx?o=40f9cc62-6445-e511-940f-b8ca3a5db7a1 Or just unimelb.onthehub.com should do it. Make sure to press Student.

Office Professional Plus can be downloaded from portal.office.com, sign in using your student email.

Yes, http://www.it.ms.unimelb.edu.au/software/ . You will need to be at Uni to access this page, or connected through the VPN.
