CHEM AS AN ELECTIVE FOR GAMSAT?

Hi guys,
I'm doing biomedical science this year and plan to take the GAMSAT. However, is it necessary to pick CHM1011 and CH1022 as an elective to prepare for it? I understand that it's worth 40% for the science section. However, I also want to do an art/language elective. Do you think it is wiser to pick chemistry as an elective to help prepare for the GAMSAT? Or are there other ways around it such as self-studying for it? If I choose to do that, will it suffice compared to taking the actual unit at uni?
Also, what resources do you recommend?
Thanks!!

I'm interested in an answer to this as well   :)

I've enrolled in both CHM1011 and CHM1022 Units because apparently they are useful for the GAMSAT.

"Not only are these subjects extremely necessary for any budding GAMSAT sitters but the exams don't change year to year. It's like they want you to HD it!" (http://monashbiomedsociety.weebly.com/textbook-and-unit-guide.html)

There will be plenty of Chemistry in the core units of Biomedical Science anyway, so I don't think you will be too disadvantaged but that excerpt was enough to convince me to choose Chemistry as an elective. Also, you can choose more interesting electives in your 2nd/3rd years and since the first time we will sit the GAMSAT is 2nd year, it might be useful to get the extra chemistry knowledge under our belts during 1st year so we are ready for it as early as possible.

This is my reasoning. In terms of content I'm not quite sure. We need to wait for someone who has done the GAMSAT and provide their opinion on how beneficial the Chemistry units prepared them for it.

As someone who sat the GAMSAT last year,  I would agree that doing CHM1011 and 1022 is definitely helpful for section 3.  I didn't do chem as an elective myself,  but I sought lecture notes from people who did do it,  and have heard that it helped familiarise them with some of the section 3 questions, especially with the amount of organic chem in the exam.

As helpful as it is,  I would say it's not a must, meaning if you had other electives that you really wanted to do,  it wouldn't hurt to do those instead (I ended up picking maths). The crux of completing the science section is to be able to develop a logical answer based on the information given (which will come from a range of biology,  Chemistry,  and physics questions).  This means in order to study for the GAMSAT,  the most important thing to do (in my opinion),  is to get familiar with the style of questions through practice exams,  rather than worrying about learning every topic (this should be your second priority if you are struggling with a particular type of question).

I hope this helps!
