question about rankings

Hi guys,

I know I've finished VCE and I shouldn't worry about this anymore but I'm still kinda confused about this aspect

usually there will be 1 or 2 GAs which are your SAC marks.
and you are ranked within your cohort

lets say you have a large cohort of 100 people
is each person ranked between 1st and 100th?
or can there be equal rankings? like multiple people being ranked like, 10th or something?
because in that case I would assume many people would get similar-ish SAC marks and the total SAC marks could be similar
e.g. many people could get 80/100 for their GA1 and GA2 mark for example - so are the people who get the same GA mark all ranked on the same level?

also, I heard that it doesn't matter 'how much' you're ranked by. so if you're rank 1 by 1 mark or 50 marks it doesn't matter, as long as you're rank 1. I guess the same could be if you're ranked last - it doesn't matter if they submit your SAC GA mark/s as 0/100 or 40/100 for example, as long as you're behind everybody.

can someone please clarify?

idk if any of this makes sense
thanks for anyone who answers :)

Yes, there can be equal rankings, in this case they would receive the same moderated SAC mark. From what I know at my school, people with the same GA mark get the same ranking...however for equal rank one incidences sometimes the teachers internally moderate the rankings.

Yeah, it doesn't matter if you're rank 1 80/100 or rank 1 100/100 as it's a reflection of your strength within your school cohort. This is because different schools have different SACs and different marking.

Edit: moving second part of post so strawberries doesn't draw the short straw :)

If you are rank 1 you are hypothetically on 100% sacs. It does not matter if your sac marks are F and you are rank 1. Rank 1 allows vcaa to understand that you are top of your cohort, and what you get in the exam will adjust your marks, this means no other student affects you. I was rank 1 in history with sac marks of 70%. I knew that teachers were marking harshly and in the end my marks for unit 3 and 4 were both A+.

As long rank 1 and u ace the exam then u got high chances of 45+ or even 50. If you go to the worst school in the world and you are rank 1 and your sacs are 31% and you get 100% on the exam you will get a 50.
