Should I go for it?

Hey guys, currently in year 9 and learning Japanese, and have grown fond of it, and am currently thinking of taking it as a SL for VCE

I only started this year though, and that is a problem for me, I am quite motivated to learn the language, but I'm not sure if they will accept me for the hours of class time I have before I choose my VCE

My previous school didn't have Japanese sadly, so that's a disappointment, I am an Otaku I guess, I don't take it as an insult or anything anymore l, pretty open about it.

So, should I take it as a LOTE? I am planning to study Japanese pretty seriously on that matter as I want to learn the language pretty badly.

I don't have any other language to go for VCE other than this anyways except English, I studied Turkish for 5 years but I was completely unmotivated so I already forgot about it in less than 3 weeks.

Please help

P.S currently mastered all hiragana and katakana including tenten, Mayu and combination sounds, learning basic phrases and words used in everyday life, been 5 weeks since I started, is this good or bad?

If you like the subject and have the dedication, definitely do it! Seriously, I stress the word dedication. I know a lot of people who started Japanese for fun only to drop it soon after.

You are learning Japanese in your school classes right? If you can keep up with them, I wouldn't see any reason why they wouldn't let you continue it in VCE despite how many hours you put into it. I only started learning Japanese at school in year 9 as well, while everyone else at my school had started since year 7. So, during the holidays and stuff, I studied super hard to try to catch up to them. Now I'm doing it in VCE and it's one of my favourite subjects :D

I'm not sure about your current progress because it's been so long since l started learning, but I wouldn't say it's particularly fast? It might be fine for before VCE level though if you continue learning like this consistently :)

Thank you :)

Yeah, not particularly fast,
The actual time spent on learning both is about 4 hours though, rest spent on revision and assignments for other subjects

Will probably go over most normal conversation phrases by 3 weeks, and hopefully move onto Kanji and their meanings and radicals in the holidays

P.S
How many kanji's should I have knowledge of, both writing and meaning wise before entering VCE?

Go for it.
I'm usually the kind of person who *cough*dislikes*cough* 'otaku' for various reasons, but you know what, it will most likely help your Japanese improve at least 3 times faster than the kids just doing classes. Use your fondness of anime etc. to your advantage and for sure do it.
