Hey Guys!
Not much discussion surrounding JMSS has commenced yet, so I decided to take the initiative of establishing this thread for those who are planning on partaking the entrance examination later this year :) . All are welcome! If you have any issues and/or concerns, please don't hesitate to post and join in with the discussion below.

All the best,
The Average Student  ;)

I got an interview but what do they ask? Please suggest

In my opinion it was. I enjoyed the JMSS test. I'm terrible at comprehension so I didn't do well in the MHS one.

Ok. I was so stressed on the MHS test. Do you have to do an interview or can you get into JMSS straight away?

I got an interview

I have some questions:

Do you get ranked for the test, for example if u got the top score in the test and did bad in the interview will u get in?

And

Everyone who tried for jmss in my school got and interview so what percentage of the participants did they offer an interview to?

Also

What percent of the people who get interviewed are accepted? And in my yr level there's 250 students so how many people can get in jmss?

I appreciate your help

I'm fairly certain your score on the test is somewhat influential towards your interview's outcome.

Everyone who tried for jmss in my school got and interview so what percentage of the participants did they offer an interview to?
People have said they take around 50% for an interview.

What percent of the people who get interviewed are accepted? And in my yr level there's 250 students so how many people can get in jmss?
7 or 8

I also have a few questions.
A lot of people from my school got an interview. I'm estimating at least 25 and 8 people can pass. I know for sure 5 people will pass so that leaves 3 spots. Will I be able to secure a spot if I talk confidently and do well in the interview despite not having as many achievements to display as others? Thanks.

Also, I did terribly for science last year; and I mean like, horid, bare pass so will the interviewer be unimpressed or happy to see my marks like skyrocket up?

This interview sounds harder than the actual test.  :(

I would say yes because I think I did horrible in the interview but I didn't do too bad in the test and I got in. So maybe they weigh 50/50. I don't know though!

Well I think you have to really showcase your personality and do well in the interview if you don't have as many achievements :)
If your marks improved, I'd say it's fine but I would actually try to use that to my advantage by reflecting on that experience. ie. Why I did bad last year and what went wrong and how did I improve this year! This demonstrates that you are able to recover from setbacks!

Good luck!

We need semester 2 2015 and semester 1 2015 reports for the interview right?
I did really bad on English & IT last year, this year I did really well on everything ( distinctions and high distinctions on everything except one subject) so should I just not bring last years report?
How are your reports? Are they all straight A's? Is the report really important for determining if u get in or not?
How do they mark u in the interview????

Thanks

Yeah just those two reports! Like I mentioned before, I would bring my report but try to explain what went wrong in year 8 :)
And my reports are pretty much like yours, did horribly in year 8 but year 9 got better and no they aren't straight As ahaha (I'm obviously not that hardworking), however, I reported my school ranking instead :)
I think reports don't exactly determine whether you get in or not since some schools are "easier" than others but it can help add value if you did well!

What are u guys gonna put in your folio?
I'm just gonna put my reports and a letter that shows I got accepted into a special science program for next year, at my school I have been allowed to do 2 advanced placements next year, can I do 2 at jmss and should I mention it in the interview. Btw they only give u 2 advanced placements if u got a really good report and its uncommon at my school.
