Unfair marks?

Hello there :) not sure if this is the right section, but I'm kinda in a bad mood

Did a great assignment, compared it too all my friends, all said mine was better, I had 10 pages there with great colour codes diagrams and such. But then the results

I get 25/30 A

This might be good to some of you, but not to me.

A few friends of mine who wrote it on PAPER (he said type it up) with no subheadings or titles (he said we must do that) got a 26/30 A, 27/30 and a 30/30. The 27 one even had near no diagrams.
They also only did about 3 pages without legends or such on their diagrams with only estimated measurements while I measured all mine personally and accurately to the nearest digit.

I don't understand how this is fair in any way, their diagrams didn't even have half the BOLTSS conventions in them and they still get full marks for that section!

I can't even approach the teacher cause he is the kind to instantly take off marks for asking for a remark for no reasons

What am I supposed to do?

This might be good to some of you, but not to me.

I can tell that you are kinda angry.

I think you should analyse your assignement without comparing it to others, that always clouds peoples judgement, especially people who think their work is better than others.

All of us here have been screwed in terms of marks one way or another, and most of us try to get better, and find out mistakes, and try not to make the same mistake again.

What makes you such an expert on the topic to be able to judge why yours was better? Everyone thinks their own work is good.

Honestly, get off your high horse and learn some humility. It's people with your attitude that give MHS the reputation of being full of pretentious arrogant pricks.

Honour the work mate, not the grade.

Wow pi. You said everything I wanted to say (minus MHS speak), except better.

Damn, when I first read this I was like cmon Pi be empathetic, some people during yr 12 get really stressed out so you should show some lenience.

Then I scrolled up and saw graduating in 2019.

DUDE YOU'RE IN YR 9 why on earth do you care so much about your mark - if you were in yr 12 then this would be a different issue

What are you supposed to do? Nothing. Suck it up. It's not worth taking time out of your teacher's day to change your mark. It literally means nothing. However, this is what you can do. You can ask the teacher what you can improve on, so that you learn the skills behind it and not the best way to achieve a good mark in yr 9.

And from your explanation, the only part you seemed to excel in is graph drawing? Was your whole assignment just on graphs? Because I'm fairly sure there's a written component which is valued far more significantly than graphs. So seek ways to improve your writing skills.

I would take it if most of them didn't crap in an hour the night before and got that too -_-

I'm proud I put in the effort into it, but seriously, when all your friends joke about it for a day straight, I can't really help not be a bit angry here

P.S how big is the town hall? House choral tomorrow

I feel you in that regard. It sucks when people laugh at you for putting effort in. Just today, I had to hand in an assignment for Engineering Maths, and someone asked how many pages I did. I did 5, they go on to make fun of me for putting effort on it, while people thought they were cool for winging it.

I think you'll find that most people tend to leave Geography assignments until the 11th hour, it's a low priority on many people's radars. And even so, just because it was done at the last moments, doesn't mean it can't be higher quality than someone who spent a week on theirs. Some of my best (and worst) assignments were done under extreme time pressure.

Regarding your mates, I'm sure it's just banter. You're at an all boys school, lads will be lads. You can either come home and rant about it and feel angry, or you can laugh it off and be happy for your mates who did well.

As for your mark: you win some, you lose up. Focus on the wins for now.

P.S how big is the town hall? House choral tomorrow

It's big enough.

But then again, some of them somehow wing it and do it the night before and Lunch on the day to somehow get higher than me, then proceed to mock me on the regard, can't help but feel annoyed  after having it for 2 days

I totally know what you mean, dude. You have my sympathies; it can be extremely frustrating. I had similar things happen in Year 9/10, and it used to really grind my gears.

Try not to be discouraged by anybody else. Keep working hard. In the end, you will be rewarded. You can only wing assignments for so long. And when push comes to shove, you will be prepared for it, but they won't. Hard work will pay off in the long-run, even if it's frustrating now.

Maybe they are just super talented at Geography.

Hm, if your friends joke about how much effort you put in then that's pre sad tbh. But from what I've found (especially from MHS boys) is that they tend to lie about the amount of work and effort they put in to make themselves seem much smarter than they actually are. So even though your friends got a higher mark and say they didn't put in any effort, they actually did put in a lot of effort.

Nope, used quite a few programs to get accurate measurements on many of the calculations, accurate locations such as magnitude and latitude and various examples to compare with, while some had none.

Though You may think it's not worth much to me in year 9, I'm just a normal person born into a house of geniuses, it's quite hard to keep up with their standards. they haven't been in the best mood recently due to the amount of work they have on their hands with house moving and all.

Though I do know that these don't contribute to VCE or anything, they can't take the fact that it's like that since they are so used to the Chinese grading systems (not Chinese, we are a minority group), they put the entire 11 million population group's weight on me by keeping on telling me that I'm the only one studying in a selective school, seriously, the pressure isn't something you will get even if you are in a really strict family
