Power of Ink Language Analysis (Sample A+ Piece)

Hello all,

I've started going through Language Analysis with a few of my students and the Power of Ink (2011 VCAA Exam) Analysis is the one that teachers seem to emphasise most. Students tend to struggle with this one as well.

Thus, here is an example of an Analysis I wrote on it last year...

Note how I've structured my Analysis paragraphs by arguments (that the writer is making). Accordingly, I've found the comments which correspond with the arguments I found and placed them in the paragraph where that argument was being discussed.... Logically Structured ✓

And no, you don't have to analyse every comment!

Key Player = Argument = Idea
These are all the same....

Hope it helps,
Let me know if you have any questions.

I've just heard the term tossed around before on these forums. Essentially, it means argument/idea etc. When I'm structuring my paragraphs, I just think of the writer's 3 main arguments/ideas and base my paragraphs off of them.

Hey I've noticed that you are very formulaic with your approach - starting each paragraph with an emotion of the author then delving deeper into that. Do you have a certain structure you use with each essay? If so, could you give us a run down?

And in the essay I didnt see any specification of an audience - do you have to specify who the audience is?

Yup, 'key players' is just mysterious lauren-speak.  Try reading this, this and this.

P.S. I got these from links in English Q&A - go to first post, scroll down to four bars called 'text response', 'context', 'language analysis' and 'miscellaneous' - when you click on those, you get heaps of useful answers to heaps of questions you may have (or not yet realise that you should have :P).  Well worth a read.

I don't really have a set in stone structure, but yes, you've picked up on one of the things I do. The main thing I can stress is to structure your Analysis' by the writer's three main arguments. This will be even more crucial next year when there will be a larger emphasis placed on 'Analysis of Argument' (due to the change in Study Design).

If there is a specific audience being targeted, mention it (i.e. Melburnians, parents, mothers etc.). If not: readers, audiences etc.
