metalanguage problem

Hey guys.

I sort of a have a problem at the moment. I know my metalanguage really well, when people talk about it, for instance "euphemism", i'll know what is it and be able define it and all that. But when I read texts try and to annotate & analyse it, I tend to struggle and not be able to locate some of them and instead just end up finding some really obvious ones.

Any solutions?

Cheers

I had similar struggles back then. Practice makes perfect- if you have KF's Green Book, I'd advise photocopying the text, annotating it, and then looking at the example response to see what you picked up and what you missed.
Take a good look at what you missed - and try to see it intuitively. The more you practice, the better you become. And just keep an eye out in the media, news, internet, or even ATARNotes. (e.g. one commonly observes the use of dysphemism here...)
