Hey there.

Im assuming this is about Medicine courses?

I think it means that if you get into your medicine course, after you graduate, you are required to work in some sort of rural area for 6 years (of government's choosing, I think). By accepting a CSP bonded place, you are entering into a legally binding contract.

It's not necessarily 'rural' per se; just areas of workforce shortage. Even my suburb which I live in now is considered one, and it's not THAT far out (Doncaster East). Also, it's for as long as your course runs, so if you go to Monash, it'll be 5 years that you owe the government. Also, keep in mind that it can act as a full-fee program of sorts now that full-fee is scrapped, because you can actually break the contract by buying your way out of it, ultimately costing you the equivalent of what you'd pay if you had done full-fee.

Doesn't the area of workforce shortage depend on what you specialize in?

Is there any website that tells you where these areas are?

Yeh, it does. Read http://www.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/work-st-bmp-wher for more info. It'll answer all your questions.
