Thanks for the advice ssarahj

Also did any of you guys seem to realise the swift change from prelim to hsc?
No. Definitely not. "Year 11 brain" is a pretty common thing to experience during your first term of HSC.

But whatever. Just keep doing your best. Besides, I screwed up my first half of the HSC; I picked myself up afterwards.

During my trials, I just stayed in my room and studied.

But during the HSC stuvac period I got bored of my room. So I just went to the library.
I dare say that my productivity DID decrease* from making this decision. But studying stopped being as boring by doing this. Every now and then a bit of conversation would appear, but then we'd get back to studying again sooner or later.

What did we do for study? To be honest, we did whatever we individually wanted to do. It just so happened if we could help each other out we asked for it. Although we did have lunch together.

* - My raw marks for my final exams were still higher than that for the trials regardless.

So it was better to study with mates?

How would you study with mates though? I never understood how it exactly worked, like I know you'd test your mates' knowledge and such but what other study techniques would you do in addition to that?

Like I said, we just studied our own thing.

Trials are over and hsc study is slowly starting to kick in. There's talk in some classes about forming smaller study groups but no one is too sure what would actually be effective to do in them. What's worked for you guys?

I can definitely vouch for studying in small groups! Just make sure you choose to form a group  (usually 3-6 is good) with people who actually want to study and not just have some massive gossip sesh  8)
Depending on the subjects you could:
- literally just discuss the content (e.g. for English subjects where you can talk about concepts to refine your ideas etc.)
- test each other
- do practise questions (either by just talking them through or actually doing them and then discussing)
- get creative! My Hospitality group uses the whiteboard heaps to do scaffolds/dot points for extended responses instead of sitting down all the time.

Group work is really good for covering a lot of content in a short amount of time and its usually WAY more interesting trying to do it yourself. Teaching another person content has also been proven to be a really effective way of learning it yourself so its a win win situation.

The forums are a bit quiet at the moment, everyone is resting after their Trials, but they will be busier than ever in a few weeks, hence, the calm before the storm ;)

Oh I get it now

They should start asking questions now so then they have more time to ask questions before their exam  :D

Anyways, I feel kinda lonely because I'm the only prelim student here but DW   ;D

But what would they ask when they don't know anything specific to ask about at this point?

Especially since most of them should be enjoying a break from all of that tiring study

Um...if they're learning something ahead of everyone else and are stuck on a specific concept then yeah they could ask something

Well they could be doing light studying, shouldn't they?

I don't think you can say that anybody *should* be doing anything. It's up to them; if they feel they need a break entirely, I don't see why they *should* be studying at all.

I agree with Joseph41 100%! You'll understand after you've done yours next year conic curve but Trials are actually the most stupidly stressful part of the HSC year, there's absolutely nothing wrong with taking a break. People shouldn't be made to feel bad about letting their exhausted brains rest. Besides, there's still bucket loads of time before the HSC actually starts.
